In two days when the replacement arrives, I will know the answer. I'll keep you guys posted.
What about a crank position sensor? If it is acting up would there be a pop in decel during say a steady 2800 rpm and a complete throttle roll off? Also the downshift pop? Both happen when the bike gets hot(old readers tired of my problems know I've done the decel enleanment thing and had it professionally dyno tuned). I have also had the bike do weird rpm things such as drop down to 750 on the tach when I stop - then I go for another mile and stop and the bike just quits. A few times when the bike is hot it has gone up to 1250 on the tach and stayed for several seconds. No codes...
I started by getting my wife to ride on the back and made a data recording. I held the throttle steady for 10 seconds at 2200, 2600 and 2800 through each gear to determine what the throttle position was normally. Once I had the data I analyzed it to see which ve tables were being called at each throttle position. I then worked through the smoothing I mentioned earlier to help make a good transition in the zero throttle position during the downshift process.
I still have the pop on throttle roll off at 2800 and 2600 but I think I canwork through it. If at a minimum I have rid myself of the annoying downshift pop I will be happy.
