I got the the **** Switch off, and I see a black pin stick horizontal at the bottom of the ignition switch. Is it possible to undo the fork lock without having to tow it to a 40 mile away dealer? I now know about the recall. I can't take the outer fairing off because the steering bar won't move in both directions. Does anyone have good experience in undoing the fork lock so I can ride my bike for 2 weeks so that I don't have to wait for the dealer to replace the old ignition switch?
First off, Welcome aboard... Please take a moment to post an intro in the NEW MEMBERS SECTION......
If your dealer gave a crap about you, they would run your bike as "Down Vehicle" to expedite the repairs.... HD will overnight the replacement switch, and the dealer is obligated to rapidly repair the vehicle....
IF ... you choose to attempt to do the mod that I can PM you with, the dealer is NO LONGER OBLIGATED to do a warrentable repair, as YOU will have opened a visibly sealed unit, and will know that you tampered with it.... That lets the Dealer and HD off the hook for repairing your bike, and you take it in the shorts....
I have a 06 Ultra also, tell me about the recall with the switch, if there is one. I checked the Motor Company site and all it listed is Product Notice: 0902: PRD PGM:06 TOUR VOLT REGULATOR, which I need to schedule. They sure are not interested in telling you anything about the recalls. When I had my 1000 mile service they replaced something to do with the blinkers or so they said. Does anyone know where anyone can go to find out if there has been any recalls on your bike. If I had not been reading the forum I would not have found out about this one. thanks

The dealership has access to all of the Recalls and Safety Campaigns, and if you ASK, they can PRINT it out for you, and it is VIN specific..... It will also show you if it is an OPEN or CLOSED status, as reported by ANY dealer....
As far as the Ignition Switch, there is a cut-off date... Excerpt from Service Bulletin M-1190...

How are we suppose to know if there is a recall on something? Do they send you something to tell you about it, like with my Nissan truck they sent me a recall notice by mail, I called and they replaced the part. I've never gotten anything fro Harley Davidson or the dealership about a recall on anything, they just told me about the one they done on the blinkers during my 1000 mile service, my local dealership is all about sales. When I bought my 06 Ultra I had purchased an 04 Softail two years before there and loads of parts, I sit on the bike, looked it over really good, spent 30 minutes waiting on someone to come over to see what I was doing kicking the tires, opening everything up, blew the horn (true), finally went to the front deck an asked for help then was covered with sales people. They will walk over you if they know you already own one to get to someone else. The sales manager has spoken to me twice in 4 years, both time saling me a bike, no 3 times once he said "excuse me" as he needed to get by me as I looked at parts. The girls on the floor selling clothes and the parts guys are great, but the sales team has no time for you unless you are buying a bike. There web site has nothing about recalls on it, where would I go tothe service department to find out about recalls, I looked the other information up on HD's site. I appreciate yourhelp, thanks.
