isn't there anyone here who knows how to get more from these 96" twin cams? im sorry to say i did the stage 1
and i'm just not impressed, the high end is unbeleiveable but my low end is lagging. I had a buell cyclone m2 aftera few trips to the shop you couldn't keep the front wheel down... where has all the power gone.
can anyone out there "unleash the beast" of the new twin cam?
I'd like to know this also, can you swap out cam shafts w/o doing anything else as long as you have a Tmax ( or other fuel mgmt)and pipes already? What else, short of boring out the cylinders, can we do to these engines? ( After the stg 1 stuff)
you gotta get the engine to BREATH, cams, air filter and some good flow exhaust (of course with a good fuel managment system). Different cams will give you different power through the RPM range, pick the ones ya want where ya want it to be strongest. If ya wanna get into the heads, port them, and even further put some decent pistons in it. then it will GO.
Any cam recommendations? Is this an install I can do in the garage at home? Already have the intake/exhaust covered. I might be wrong thinking on this, not that easy?
Well, bolt in cams will be where you want to start.
I put mine in at home, you will need to add some adjustable push rods and bolt cuters, or you will be taking you rocker covers off and rockers too!
Most camsare around .510 lift, some are alittle more. generaly cams over .550 lift will need different springs and some minor head work.
Popular bolt in cams are: S&S .510s, Andrews 37s, Head Quarters #34s (my favorite) Crane has a good grind but I forget the part # and lastly the Woods T6.
Alot of guys like the Andrews 26, I think its too small for a light bike and a waste of money.
You could do some head work latter for bigger gains, but these cams will give you some punch!
a hotter ignition module is really not that necessary unless you are going racing... IMO and I put a set of 8.8 Ultimas on my Dyna and he smoothed out alot... some of the guys here dont care for them (bigger or non stock wires) I however really like the Ultimas for the way they have enhanced the "feel" of my engine overall. Plus they also look better..
