Default SERT install still pinging

My tuner is not able tostop my 07 Superglide from "pinging". It will mostly ping when hot during exceleration around I am quessing about 2500 RPM's. I read and was informed that the SERT with stage kit would fix this problem, but now having completed my 2nd dyna tune with the SERT installed the ping is still there. My tuner has tried both close loop settings and open but it still pings, sometimes a lot on hot days. He told me that the SERT will not stopthe pinging. I do not have a lap top computor to do my own tuning. I read on this forumthis problem/fix has to do with the idel setting in closed loop. My tunner stated that he was not aware of any setting to stop my bike from pinging. I live in the Spokane area, any suggestions on a different plan of actionfor me.

My name is john and this is my 3rd bike after 30 yrs of not riding, man things havegone to high teckfor me.

I put my laptop in my saddle bag and recorded where the spark knock was. Then I adjusted that cell. One other issue is the crap being sold as premium gas. I've gotten a few tanks that I could tell were junk. Just had to go easy until I could refill. Don

Tree: Take a look at the SERT User's Manual on the CD and follow the instructions for putting tape on your right hand grip to identify throttle position--bascially it starts by marking 0% throttle, 100% throttle, then dividing those markings in half down to 6% throttle.

Then ride the bike and note the throttle position when you get pinging and the ride conditions, such as two-up, hilly terrain, etc.

A good SERT tune (which very few tuners do, and very few customers are willing to pay for because of the dyno time required) would have identified the rpm and load conditions when pinging occurred by using the SERT's data mode with knock sensor enabled.

By you identifying the rpm and load when pinging occurs, your dyno tuner should be able to replicate this condition on the dyno, see the pinging on the SERT data, and adjust fuel/timing to eliminate it.

Using the tape to indicate throttle position is an imperfect solution to not having a laptop on the bike with the SERT in data mode. Ican is doing the same thing riding his bike that your dyno tuner is doing on the dyno.

The more precise you are in identifying the rpm/load at which pinging occurs, the more likely your dyno tuner can replicate the condition on the dyno and tune to eliminate the pinging.

Thanks for the replys. I was directed to a good tuner at Latus Harley Davidson outside of Portland. Six hour ride from hear, good reason to do some serious riding again. Maybe I will get me a notebook to carry, better thanaclunky tool box. I think the Company is on to something hear...

once again if you want this stuff fine tuned and to take the pinging and to get set right dyno it.and i know it cost money. and it's very understanding but if you dont set this stuff right what you can do to the motor. will cost a whole bunch more .and i also understand some of you can do it with no problems . but the way it sounds alot of you cant which it is not your fault.that is why the E.P.A. is making so tuff you keep your bike box stock no problems but if you do just the little things it throws every thing off. yea some of you think i'm trying to get the most out of the motor no i'm just trying to help telling you this is what you got to do. to get your bike to run smooth.some of these settings can only be reached by a custom mapping you can do on a dyno.and to some of you i may sound like a broken record .but i have known to many people that has went thru what some of you are at. if you think i'm blowing smoke read some of the post right here.and tell me that there's not a problem.

funny thing happend. Getting ready for another dynotune in 3 weeksthis time out of state so I got a new set of cycle shack muffler pipes to put on for this dyno, well the pinging isgone. This bike 07 super100% stockfrom day one would ping when hot, even with a sert and stage kit/ modified stockmufflersit would ping , but now withthe new pipes I'm a happy camper. Still goingto dothe dyno to compare the other runs. Bike runs s t r o n g with these new pipes and much improved throtle response.I'm thinking the crossover tubes on the stock pipescontrobuted tothe pinging. As far as I am concern the stock EPA pipes/mufflers are junk.
