Default 2006 Dyna Primary Inner Bearing Race

Has anyone ever installed an inner bearing race without any of the Harley Special Tools? Installing the bearing is a breeze but I notoced the race is gallled bad and needs replacing as well.

Getting the old one off will be easy enough, I'll just grind it off. I was thinking of heating the new race in the oven to 350 deg., cooling the shaft and tap gently into place. Thoughts? It's a good trick for most cup bearings in cases etc. It's actually how I installed the bearing itself in the inner case. Drops right in.

Yeah I've done it.
Not a big deal.

Sounds like you already know what you're doing.

Even w/o heat,
you can drive it on with some love taps.

I believe the service manual will give you
the measurement for spacing.

Yeah, that old race is UGLY.
thanx for the picture.

Since this drive is coaxial, I wonder how many of these bearings are ruined by drive belt being too tight.

Every new belt drive harley I've bought had the belt too tight and out of line.

Hi Mudd,

Right through the clutch hub? The two I have had replaced required the deler to pull it.

Best,

Pixs, not quite sure about your query.

The clutch basket is not part of the equation
as it pertains to the issue buzz asked about.

The clutch basket is removed as an assembly and put aside.

He asked about installing theinner bearing race without any of the Harley Special Tools.
