I do need help w/ my thoughts. I have a 07 ultra thatI had dynoed at the local shop but im thinking of going to tryauto tune for reasons of fuel mileage, flat spots in pulling through the gears, and looking for more performance when trying other mods like exauhstor whatever. Going back for dyno work is not for me.
Cost difference between these two is about $450.00 which one is better?
tlurban, I am like you, hoping the knowledgeable people will jump in on this one. I am on the fence between the exact two controllers you named. Have been reasearching this for a couple of months. I really like the idea that the Terminal Velocity does not require downloads. However, I just can't find that much information about it. I hate to have to buy a laptop to install the ThunderMax. I really am not a computer person. I would essentially like to install and forget. Okay knowledgeable people help us out. I ordered the Fatcat Friday!
The TVII Simply doesn't work! I fought one for months and through 3 different units beofre I actually threw it in the trash,POS!I have heard of a few people with near stock bikes that had few problems but MANY, MANY more who felt the lit their $450 on fire! I hear nothing but good about the T'Max and lots of people have it. I tried to go the less expensive route too when I bought the TV, big mistake. If you want to go low $, Just learn the SERT ($360)or PCIII yourself. Heck, if you buy a PC from Fuelmoto, you get best price(<$300) and lifetime support including MAPs!
Just my $.02
Good luck, I been chasing tuning issues since I bought an 01 w/MM/EFI, still chasing on my 08 but a lot more confident I'll find it now.
I've tried a PCIII, the SERT and a Terminal Velocity II. I had problems with the PCIII, and they took it back and gave me a full refund. The SERT worked good but is expensive, and if you ever change anything on your bike, you will have to retune it. The TVII is filed in the round file cabinet.
Nightriders XIED was the easiest and best Bang for the Buck.
The TVII will be an excellent choice on a bike with exhaust and air intake changes only. It doesn't work well with bikes with cam changes, primarily because cam changes usually require timing changes and the TVII only addresses a/f, not timing. I had one on my '04 EG 88 with Rineharts and SE a/c and it worked well. When I swapped cams, I found the wonderful world of SERT tuning and would recommend it over ANY aftermarket product.
Ask PhilM about the Tmax auto tune; he has two friends with them and both were sent back with faulty ECM's. Others like the Tmax, but it still requires replacing the Delphi ECM (so you lose the HD heat management capability as well as create warranty issues if you have serious engine problems on a newer bike), loading maps, timing adjustments, etc.
If you are going to keep the engine stock, the TVII will be a good choice.
Cruz, Harley, I am responding to you since your still on. I really appreciate the info and personal thoughts of all responding,it is nice to have another thought instead of just my own.I spend so much money playing around w/ exauhst, ride position, and beauty to the beholder.
I am starting to lean toward TVII. unless compleling info soon comes to lite. How much labor is involved in the Tmax auto?
Download the Tmax installation manual and take a look. I did it in about 45 minutes. Pull ECM fuse. Pull old O2 sensors, put in new ones (pleeease get a crowfoot adapter for that, the rear is near impossible without it). It's a 7/8", got mine from NAPA, part # NHTNCF28.
Pull stock ECM, replace w/TMAT. Hookup wires per instructions.
Personally, I am quite a fan of the Tmax. Besides it working as advertised, you can get someone by email or on the phone very quickly.
Thanks for the tool part # you definetly went out of your way to respond. However, I amin tool sales "Matco Tools"to be exact andI don't know the part # of my 22mm or 7/8" crows feet. I'm sorry that just made me chuckle. Excellent I am going to go to the tmax site.
Questions:
Was the fuel milage better? Why did you need to contact Tmax? Is your bike/rideabillitystock (meaning no major work)? What year is your bike?
