So far I have not noticed any surging on my bike, but I am so new with it, I am sure I am missing some subtlties of the bike. I know one thing, cruise control sure is a Godsend!
I don't know what is excessive heat is, but this seems to be the warmest running V-Twin I have yet had.
Do you run any kind of thermometer on your bike?

I don't RC. They sell a digital thermometer oil dip stick cap at the dealer.

Some guys use those infrared guns you point at the motor and it reads the temp.

You can check cylinder temps with the ThunderMax

Hey Meks got a question for you?

I've considered the TMax but after a lot of reading I have reservations. First off let me explain that I want a unit that is truely autotune. In other words, I install it and never have to touch it again. From what I have been reading about the TMax it seems the tweaking never ends. I am constantly seeing new posts about people having problems and how do I tweak this? Not to take away from the TMax I have also seen many posts from people who are happier than hell with it.

The fact that people are still waiting for new firmware to come out doesn't exactly make me confident either.

I read somewhere that the unit by default will autotune at a rate of 5%. Out here where I live, it can be 40 degrees in the morning and 70 degrees by noon, then 60 when the sun goes down. Just how fast does the TMax make adjustments to these fast changing conditions?

I have a Terminal Velocity II now that is 100% non tweakable. It has good power, good fuel mileage, and I never have to touch anything. But like most of us I am also in search of the perfect solution. My engine is still running too hot.

IMO, the continuous tweaking on the Tmax is because we can in some cases. I messed with mine a little here and there, but when i did my last mod, finally adding the true-duals, I just loaded the correct map, turned on the decel cutoff (to stop the decel popping) and haven't touched it since. As far as the temp changes you mentioned, there are tables for AFR changes based on engine temp that are already there, it doesn't have to learn those. I've mentioned in others posts that it is more uncommon that people post when everything just works, they typically are looking for help on an unusual case, so you're going to see more of those.

Im starting to think that nothing can beat a SERT and a constant load dyno run. Sure you have to retune if you change any engine parts but thats true with any engine.

I have a complete stand alone ECU on my car. You HAVE to be tuned on a dyno or risk blowing **** up.

I appreciate the response SGDude. Thats what I am trying to find out. So basically I can install the unit choosing a close base map, and it will fine tune itself relieving me of ever having to tune it again.

The last thing I want is something that I will be plugging my laptop into every week and constantly trying different settings.
