180 Tire and Kit
Did you need the kit? I didn't on my Wide Glide, but the fender is very different. I've read from others here that the kit isn't needed on the full fender Dynas either. Just curious.
Not much The stealer did it.They moved the wiring out of the way. I was told brackets and spacers to allow for more room for the tire. I believe that you would be able to do it with out the kit but you would have to move the wiring so it didn't rub on tire.
you where lied to... the brackets are the exact same brackets as you have for your sissy bar set up... all you need is the rubber and it willfit... somethimes yo have to trim the turnsignal stalks down a touch on the interiour of the fender... looks dam good though! sharp bikke!
Oh well it wouldn't be the first time they have lied. I like the look. I did notice the bike takes thetwistiesa little better had to test it out.
I love the look too. I was shocked at the handling difference. Feels much more solid down there now. I may go to a 200 when I need my next tire.

Domenic, I doubt they lied to you on purpose (can't believe I'm defending the stealer).
If you haven't added a sissybar, the kit is needed as stated to keep the tire from contacting the wiring.
When I decided to go with the 180, I just told the parts guy I didn't need the kit, and I would take responsibily if the tires rubbed the wiring. The guys I deal with are good folks, and were just following what the book tells them. Most parts folks aren't installing tires, these days, or anything else for that matter. I think they rely on the customers needs, wants and knowledge as much as we rely on them.............. Sorry to go on about it.
The SE 180 is a very good deal IMO, and I think it handles/rides at leastas well as the Metz 160. My 180 was the same price as the stock HD Dunlop 160 replacement (I couldn't believe it).
What I noticed is the SE 180 accomplished the same results as the Metz 160 cheaper, and looks a lot better, too. That baby really fills out the fender nicely.
Your bike is lookin real fine
.
Let us know how you are liking your SE 180, and what kind of mileage you get out of it.

Thanks Doug I was not going to take a chance with not having the kit installed The guy's and gal's at the dealership are going by the book as you stated. I would rather be safe than sorry on something like a tire. I will keep you all updated on the mileage. I am pretty conservative in my riding style so I might just get a little better mileage out of it. Scott will need to hook up with you one of these days at Strokers I see your from Big D.
My dealer told me HD will NOT let them install a 180 on a bike that is under warranty without the "kit". I may go with a 170 or even 180 when I need tires and will probably get an Indy to do it.
