Default PC III blues

Ive been playing around with my pc3 usb today. and fyi I've already talked to Jamie and a fellow named Kyle @ Dynojet. appears to be 2 problems to me at this point. 1 - software; using a windows vista pc laptop, the driver for the pc3 is not found. per conversation with Kyle, dynojet uses a universal pnp usb driver, but for some reason, this driver isn't found. so there are apparently no drivers to download from dynojet. as it stands right now, with the bike on, and pc3 running I have a "no power commander" in the upper right hand side of the control module display. the puter isn't seeing the pc3. changed usb cables, uninstalled the program loaded by the cd, and downloaded from the fuelmoto site. problem still there. 2 - hardware; MY pc3 has a led illuminated on the left hand bar graph on the pc3 itself. Jamie tells me this is a problem with the unit. after I turn the ignition to the on position it should show a rise and fall, I assume like a self test, but my indicator light stays lit on the second from the bottom led.

has anyone else experienced this? I'm going to give jamie a call in just a few minutes, but being frustrated right now, wanted to calm down a little bit before I gave him a call. I'm sure he'll make it right for me, just wanted to see if anyone else has had this experience with a led indicator.

thanks in advance,
Les

Yep, it'll do that if the Zero throttle position isn't sync'ed. Problem is, you need the Computer to do that. When I installed mine the light came on and kinda danced between the first, second and third bar. After zeroing the throttle position, it glows steady on the first (normal) when the ignition is turned on but the engine isnt started. The readout on my laptop shows O as RPMS and showed 600 and something before I fixed the sync problem. It is really simple to do once you get the program working in your computer. Vista seems to give lots of programs and printers fits. Rumor has it MS is hurrying up with Windows 7 rather than fixing Vista. You might try borrowing a laptop with XP, mine works fine.

That seems really odd about the driver incompatibility, but I guess I'm not surprised. Do you hear the tell-tale series of sounds that are normally made with a USB device is connected? Is there any reaction to the PCIII being connected at all? Have you tried another USB port, as perhaps that one is defective. A long shot would be that the USB ports are shut down in the computer bios, but that's not likely. You might also try another Vista notebook if an XP machine can't be found, or drag your desktop out in the garage (if it has XP). Next, consider riding the bike to the window of the computer room and use a long (15' max) USB cable, or more than one with a USB extender.

Compatibility is one of many reasons I haven't "upgraded" to Vista, another being that Vista is slower, another that it doesn't provide clear superiority over XP, and yet another that XP simply works well. I would suggest finding another computer with XP and use it for the time being 'til a fix is discovered for your machine.

Anyway, I didn't know the tidbit about zero-TP status showing with LED position. It's been a while since I performed any changes to the PCIII with the engine running, as connecting the 9V battery is much easier without the shack, rattle, and roll. When first connect the 9V battery the LED immediately goes up and down several times, then settles--not sure where, as I never paid much attention.

thanks for the responses. I'm off this week, so I'll try to find someone with a pc laptop running xp and try again. I'm a Mac guy and just wish dynojet supported both platforms. from conversations with jamie at fuelmoto, he believes my pcIII has a problem since the indicator light stays on all the time if the bike is on. he says after pcIII/puter begin communicating the green light should go off after the initial few seconds.

I have thought of taking the wife's desktop running ME down to the garage and plugging it all up to see what happens, but ME can be wonky... plus I'll need to wait till she goes to work monday morning

thanks again,

What do you need to check your power commander. I bought my bike with it in and don't have the cable or software? I have a camera cable that looks the same. Thanks

The camera cable probably is the same. The cable you need is a standard USB on one end and a mini-USB on the other. The software can be gotten from powercommander's web site.

Depending on the model year of your bike, to perform some operations you may need the accessory cable that plugs into the larger jack on the PC-III and has a 9VDC battery connector.

Read through this thread. The conclusion is: Well I bought the copy of Vista Premium yesterday, ran Boot Camp on my Mac, partitioned the drive and installed Vista (which takes 7 gigs!!)

The Dynojet software runs perfectly with Vista, I am now able to adjust individual fuel cells and monitor idle, duty cycle, etc.

So Dynojet PCIII USB software will run on Vista and Vista Premium runs on an Intel based Mac with no lag.
