RK Custom w/detachable fairing and stock Chrome Wind Defector
Here's a few pictures of my RK Custom with detachable fairing PAINTED while still retaining the factory Chrome wind deflector. I posted some pic last fall before I had it painted and occasionally get PM's asking for photo of it painted........well Ifinally got it installedon the bike last week and took it for a spin. There'sstill snow on the ground so the I haven't given the bike it's spring cleaning yet, but you should get the idea what a RK Custom looks like with a Wide Open Custom fairing.Their fairingwas the only one I found that would fit over the stock chrome defector and at less than 1/2 the price ofthe the othersit was a no brainer. Normally don't run with a fairing or windshield (I would guess most Custom owners don't). But I figured on cold days or long trips in excess of 500 miles/dayit would be nice.It was 45 degrees when I took it for a spin and it was actually comfortable riding with it on. Pops on and off in under a minute so it don't get any quicker than that.

I'm thinking about ordering from them. Are you happy with the quality and workmanship of the fairing? Was it hard to put together once it was painted? I have been looking and trying to make up my mind about who to buy from.
Thanks

Yes its from Wide Open Custom and I have only good things to say about thefairing andWide Open Custom.Their web site give good detailed instruction on how to assemble it.I would highly recommend preassembling everything including mounting and wiring to the bike before sending it off to paint. Hardest part is installing the windshield nuts and washers. Also I tried both the 5" and 10" windshield didn't really like either so I cut 2" off the10" and ended up with an 8" windshield.
I for the life of me can't understand why a fiberglass fairingcost 2-3 times more than an ABS one, hell I bought an entire fiberglass front end for my Super Gas Vega for less than $600,don't see why a fairing would cost more than a complete front end.

was checkin out your fairing . looks great .
a couple questions ; how does the rubber in the windshield area fit
tight ? and after you mounted the radio how did the cd work any skipping?
RE: RK Custom w/detachable fairing and stock Chrome Wind Defector
I am a little irriatated. I have a rk custom, with 18" apes. I emailed them and they said the fairing would not mount with my apes. I know your are like 14" (maybe 12"), but it should still work. I can't really tell, but do you have the bars in line with the forks, or are they pulled back more toward the rider? Can you get me a shot of the bike, like the top one, only a little further toward the rear of the bike... so I can see how the bars are set? Thanks... and it looks great....
RE: RK Custom w/detachable fairing and stock Chrome Wind Defector
1) I have 14" apes and have them inline with the forks. Looks like if you pulled yours back 1-2" you would be fine.....depending on when you E-mailed him they may not have sold one for use on a RK Custom. Mine was the first he sold that wasconfirmed to fit. Theyprobably were being cautious and didn't want to sell something just to make a selland then not have it fit. I've meet themin person out at Sturgis and talked to him onceon the phone and they are great people. Kind of a mom and pop shop, don't think they have muchspare time for Internet surfing, when in doubt give them a call.
2) The rubber piece looks and fits good, haven't really tried the CD player but they basically say it willskip and recommend using the MP3 jack instead, which works for me. I probably won't even use the radio much.....as small as the MP3 players are now you could attack one tothe chrome wind defector with a refrigerator magnet.
