I just took possession of a 2005 Electra Glide Classic today. When I sat on the same model bike at the dealership 3 months ago, I could see over the windshield fine. However, I noticed in riding the bike for the first time today that the windshield seems about an inch to high to see over. Anybody know the best way to trim it down...without having to take it to the dealer, or by another?
Take some masking tape to both side of the shield. Mark where you want to cut and use a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade. Afterwards you can use sandpaper or a file to smooth any imperfections.
I bought the shorty for mine, and I love it. Very little increase in wind, and I think it looks great. Shop on eBay, they are cheap. Do a search in this forum, and you will find the thread with the link. There is a guy that makes them...CHEAP, and he'll do whatever size you want, and you can keep the stock OEM.
if your leary about cutting it, buy a used one on ebay and try it out. You can practice all you want and then you won't mess up the original one. They are pretty cheap on Ebay and you can also look in the JP Cycles catalog and find them in there too.
I need to put a shorter one on my Ultra but just havn't got around to it yet.
One poster. Sorry, I forget who, took his to his local glass shop amd they cut it down fo $15. I think that's the route I'll go if I decide to shorten, although I'll check out EBay also.
I have two of the shorty windshields I bought from the US. One was 30 bucks(6") and the other was 24bucks(8"). I am still trying to find the perfect combo without cutting the stock shield.
Hi, I am new to this forum. I just bought a two tone blue FLHTCUI last week. Sold another Harley and a Honda to get it. I trim my windsheilds with a 3" straight die grinder with a 3/32"X 3' cutoff wheel in it then sand it by hand, which works well for me. I use masking tape and draw a line on it for the cut line. Easier to cut a straight line than with a jig saw or band saw.
IMHO. Just my 2 cents worth, great site!
Check with your local glass company if you're leary about doing it yourself - that's what I did and it was $15 well spent - they had it done in 30 minutes! I had 4" cut off of mine and I could have done with 3", but, I notice no difference in wind protection. Just hoping the grasshoppers don't get too big.
