Default 3Qts. or 2 1/2?

I just changed the oil on my 2007 SuperGlide. I bought it used with 2200 miles on it and wanted to change the oil so I knew where I'm at with oil changes. Anyway, on another forum I was told that my bike uses 3 qts with a filter change. I put in 3 qts and changed the filter also. Now I bought my owners manual at the dealer and it says 2 1/2 ots, and DO NOT OVERFILL. My question.....do I need to take OUT some of the oil? Or will I be OK with the three qts? I've ridden the bike about 300 miles since the oil change and everything seems to be OK, no leaks or anything. What do you all think? If I need to get 1/2 qt out how do I do that? Thanks!

I would take some out.

You could take a small clean turkey baster and suck some out the fill hole maybe.

Take your air filter cover off and make sure its not soaked with oil.

The "wet" capacity for your bike is 2.5 quarts. That is what is used for normal changes. The "dry" capacity is only if you have a new engine or have done a rebuild. So, if you want, you can take out the oil with a turkey baster or some other suction device. Check your oil level on the dip stick and see if there is too much in there. If you are overfilled, it can blow out through your air filter. You will know when that happens.....don't ask me how I know.....[sm=headbang.gif]

Definately take some out.&nbsp\\; 2.5 is the correct amount on a bike that has had oil in it.&nbsp\\; 3.0 quarts is correct for a dry motor.

Thanks a lot guys! Just got back from the Dollar Store where I bought a turkey baster. For some reason the wife frowned when I told her what I wanted to borrow hers for!

This is what I do, fill new filter up 1/2 way &nbsp\\;w/ oil and put oil on seal, screw it on add 2 qts to engine, bring it to operating temp, and add remainder as needed, usually a pint give or take.&nbsp\\;

Would'nt it be easier to put a pan under the motor and crack open the drain, than screw with a turkey baster?
