Default Jiffy Stand Spring Replacement Part 2

Well after some helpful advice from members here and another forum , I got the jiffy stand spring installed tonight. Some of the ideas were pretty clever, a couple outright flashes of Yankee Ingenuity. Anyway, as you can see by the photos, the spring was stretched out far enough by placing steel washers in between the coils of the spring until it was long enough to hook to the jiffy stand and the small post on the mounting bracket. The whole operation took less than 20 minutes start to finish. Just thought it would be useful for someone else to see the process if they ever have the same problem. Without this little shadetree mechanic method, it would be an absolute bear to get the spring stretched far enough.

If it's like mine (touring bike), all you need to do is remove the nut from the top of the kickstand and pull the chrome "lock tab" out, you can then swing the stand all the way forward and install the spring by hand w/o any stretching required. Then just pull it abck to the "down" position, install the chrome lock bab & nut.

You're done in 3 minutes with only one wrench required....

Glad to see it worked out for you DGlide. It's a pretty good tip if you're by yourself and dont have a lift.

I could only wish the Dynas were as easy to work on as the touring models. Unfortunately, as you can see from the pictures attached to the original post, the Dyna jiffy stand is mounted underneath the cycle about mid-frame and held on by a small pin and cotter pin assembly. Unfortunately, the stand isn't that easy to remove from that location, so pre-stretching the spring is about the easiest thing to do.

It would be great if HD would move the jiffy stand to a more accessible location, that way if the spring does break or get damaged like mine did, we could all replace them as quickly. Hopefully this is a once in a ownership task.
