Also there are plenty of threads here that will coach you through the addition of the plug if that is the way you want to hook it up.

I will look into getting the connectors as an additional option, I have not engaged this becuase my intent is to have the system "auto" controlled via the thermal switch, but I realize some users would rather have a manual control and the Plug-n-play option.

Thanks

God morning Jason,
Here in NL its 08:15 hrs. Thank you for swift and clear response.
I'm know that shipping for Europe is different. I resently payed a 73$ shipment fee for an Ebay purchase.
I noticed that guys/girls here are more than happy to offer their assistance and advice . To be honest I would like an automated version allthough others like to be in "total control". I'll just monitor your web page and follow this threads development.
Cheers

Thumbs up Very Cool

Did anyone else notice that when you shut the fans off they both come to a stop at the exact same time with a slight backwards motion or what appears to be a slight backward motion and when you turn them on they both start with the same fraction of a second delay. I marvel at this creation. Oh and Jason thanks for the automatic switch explaination, now I understand how it works.

Default Thermal switch info preview

This is a sample of the switches I will be using. But mine will have black leads and the milar sleeve will be sealed with RTV at both ends. This switch will simply be "glued" in with RTV between the head fins, in close proximity to the OEM head temp sensor. I may leave the leads unterminated for a nice "tight" install, I'll have to seek counsel on that one. TXSailor is actually packaging a PDF installation document that is very thorough. The switch will cycle on/off about 200F, it's not possible to quote a precise temperature because the manufacturing temp tolerance of the switches themselves and the individual installations can impact the actual operating temp of a specific switch. What we've achieved at this operating temp are a few major objectives;
1. The motor is fully warmed up at about 167F CHT, from the ECM's point of view, the bike is in a normal fuel management mode of operation before the fans come on, even with a switch that operates at the low end of temp tolerance
2. We get an early start on cooling, well below where temps will normalize throughout steady state operations, instead of getting hotter than the normalized temp and then cooling back down. It takes less effort and time to keep it cool in the first place, than it does to cool it back down after it gets hot.
3. Post operation cool-down, this allows the fans to continue running and cooling the engine after the ignition is switched off, it will typically cycle 2-3 times as the engine "heat sinks"; this is where all of the components of the engine, with different operating temps and transfer properties normalize as a single unit in a static condition, to transfer all accumulated heat to the atmosphere. Aluminum transfers heat much quicker than steel, and since the aluminum is on the outside of the engine it cools down quick, but then the slow transfer steel components inside the motor heat the aluminum back up, this is why the fans tend to cycle after shutdown with the auto switch, it is definitely not an indication of a problem or an undesirable characteristic. This helps to mitigate the fans’ motor exposure to radiant heat after shut, and should help to further extend the life of the system.
4. Cooler restarts after ride breaks and fueling up, keeping the overall average riding temperature much lower than without the fans.

The thermal switch is not necessary, but the system will perform much better than without it. No active monitoring to turn on at the right temperature and no forgetting to turn on/off. Although I don’t anticipate many failures, for the failure argument, if the switch fails just unplug it and reconnect the fans to the harness and operate manually until it is corrected. I honestly can’t wait to get it hooked up on my own bike, it’s a better control method than my $200.00+ speed/thermal/TDR switch. Just a few more days ‘till they come in.

Jason's explanation is 100% spot on (but then he is a very clever fellow!). There was considerable field testing of the Thermal Switch (different closing and opening temperatures, different mounting locations, and different mounting methods) before offering this up as a product to complement the FCS. It basically operates like a Thermostat.

Here's a picture of the Thermal switches that Jason has on order. I've included a picture of where the recommended mounting location is. Ignore the Blue Terminals ( and the visible copper RTV!!!) that are installed on the Switch as this was a "Field Test" bike and Jason will put his red ones on so everything is a "plug and play" operation.

The installation is less than 5 minutes and very simple.

I guess I should have also said that the Thermal Switch is "pushed" back into the fins and is not visible when mounted.

I finally got off my butt and rode with the FCS and HD oil cooler on my SG! Not being an tech wiz by any means; I was able to see/feel a noticeable degree in temps and soon I will have the thermo switch too !

Going down IH35 at 75-80 mph was a snap! And stop and go traffic in downtown Austin ?
Never so much as a hiccup temp wise from my mostly stock 96" In town is where the FCS came into its own !!

The FCS works wonders on my SG... will it work as well on my wife's Nightster also ? Just for her piece of mind

HD Jim - I can say that the FCS has been pretty thoroughly tested on the SG and several softails. I probably have close to 150 hours of riding/testing on my Deluxe. As far as I am concerned, this thing works on any and every Harley and I've started talking to "other V-twins" as well.

Looking forward to the thermal switch. I have a tendency to forget to turn the fans on. I have noticed a significant cooling effect on my 07 Road King. My legs are no longer baking in the 100 degree temps.

Jason, as you get further along in your "product line", I'll bet a air cleaner cover that matches the fan shrouds would be a good seller. I'd buy one !
