Doc, would the plugs look bad if it was a ring problem? Just curious as I know a guy who's bike smokes but his plugs are whiteand he thinks it might be the rings. I have not seen it but he says it smokes on start up and blows white smoke.

If there is oil in the combustion chamber the plugs will show it.
Doc, just curious, how does the crankcase oil get into the primary?
If the seal is bad on the left side sprocket shaft bearing oil will pass through it with every down stroke of the pistons, if the compensator nut loosens the clamp load is released on the sprocket shaft seal and spacer which will allow oil to pass through the bearing and spacer with every down stroke of the piston. As the pistons travel down the cylinders pressure is built up in the crank case and that pressure will find the fastest way out and carry oil with it, if your having a sumping problem at the same time as yoiu have a seal problemthe primary will fill up with two or three qts of oilfaster than you can imagine.
