Maybe I wasnt clear, I was talking about the paint, brother.
I'm a big believer in DIY, you can see some of my work a few posts up, but HD sells a direct match for around $15usd a can. Why not use that instead of one that doesn't quite match?
I'd rather spend the extra $7 a can and do it right.
Oh! Absolutely....maybe... Trust but verify. I work for a large vertically integrated manufacturing corp. and even we still have product private-branded.
Harley is not in the paint manufacturing business and as I understand it their engines, maintenance covers, frames, etc. are powder coated. Thateans any spray touch-up they are selling is manufactured by somebody else, private branded, and marked up. Maybe it is contract manudactured to custom specs...or maybe they buy it off the shelf from VHT...
Last I heard its made by valspar. Its a dead ringer for the factory finish.
Made for Lowe's ??
Sweet....
I'm with you though. I bet anyone who wants to "complain" about it it being 100% identical Could not point out the difference.
But then again I don't think there is anyone else as cheap as me.
I just painted my battery cover and electrical cover chrome trim pieces with VHT wrinkle black. Used scotch brite to scuff up the parts a little bit. Masked it off and sprayed two coats. I'm certainly no painter but I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I can't tell the difference from factory finish. I wish I had done the belt cover this way before I sprang for the Roland $and$.
