I found the source of my noise. It was the heat shield on my V&H dresser duals hitting the floorboard mount. I adjusted the heat shields the best I could but still would hear it occasionally so I ordered the brackets from softbrake that space the floorboard out. This allowed more clearance between the pipe and floorboard bracket and now all is well.
Well, the sounds that were coming from the drivers right side floor board were the head shields.
BUT, what's causing the "clack" that happens when hitting hard bumps? I thought it might be the exhaust support that attaches to the back of the oil pan hitting the swing arm. But I see no evidence of impact. I'm at a loss now. No clue where it's Comming from. It feels like it's right below where I'm sitting. Like the battery is jumping, or something...
Damn Harley mysteries.....
I have a clacking noise I here almost every time I hit a bump, expansion joint, etc. I feel this clack in my right floorboard. I've looked for loose hardware, marks where something could be hitting all with negative results. I brought it to the dealer for the tech to take it for a ride but of course he didn't hear or feel nothing. For some strange reason, I hear and feel it more when everything is cold first thing in the morning. Oh, I forgot, it's a 2014 ultra classic.
Thanks you in advanced.
With out being on the bike take your fist and hit your floor board and see if you hear the noise.
I heard this noise on my 2014 SGS and thought something was wrong and it actually turned out to be the floor board, when I hit a bump in the road my foot pressure was lifting off the floor board and then coming back down and thus the clacking noise.
I found the floor board on the left side was not against the floor board stop when down.
IDK about you, but i "think" i would NOTICE if i hit a bump hard enuff to bottom out the front end.
they checked fall away on mine, said it was good.
you read alot of post on here about the triple clamp bolts being loose, as if the tool at the factory is wore out/ or at the end of it's useful life, here's a thread on tightening them:
The cause of my noise when hitting bumps was the exhaust shield hitting the floorboard bracket. Since these motors are rubber mounted, when you hit a bump, the motor jumps slightly. This motor movement was causing the heat shield to hit the floorboard bracket because the heat shield was too close to start with.
I'm thinking it's the front fender. If you rap on it with your knuckles you can hear it vibrate. It has a hollow but noticeable sound. I'm thinking of putting some sound deadening on the inside.
