iPhone 6 Bluetooth Problems

I blue toothed a new iPhone 6 to my bike last night and it seems to work great, except for text messaging. The text messaging doesn't work - it gives an error that the bike cannot synch to SMS messaging. The music works great - it actually sounds better than a windows phone for some reason. I put a prodigy case on the iPhone and it will not fit into the little cubby. I didn't try taking the foam out as it was such a tight fit, it didn't seem worth it.

Mine works great when plugged in with USB. But with Bluetooth, I can turn the volume all the way up and it equals 1 bar of what it should be... I can't even hear it at 35 miles an hour.
Anybody have any solutions for this? I'm stuck at the old version for the stereo, I'm one of the ones that can't update or I'll lose my maps.
