Default EITMS active below 80

stock '14 SGS (dry heads)

EITMS works as designed (when enabled it activates over 80 degrees after 4 minutes).

It also has activated a number of times with air temps at 73, even 63 degrees.
The bike was hot & in stopped traffic whenever this happened.

Question: Is there a temperature threshold that activates the EITMS? If so, what temp on what part?

Check to see what the bike shows the temperature as. Mine has shown 80 even though the actual temperature was around 70. I think that happens when the sun shines on the fairing and heats it up.

I've seen the same thing. In fact yesterday it came on with the temp at 68. This is what the Info page temp reads. So apparently something is wrong?

It's taking the intake air temperature and that has less to do with ambient air temp than you think. That air around the engine is a lot warmer, hence the dang thing on at every light.

turn it off.

No sir.

Read that bulletin once again. It clearly states AAT, not IAT

.....On faired models (except FLHTP), the AAT is
located alongside the left side of the steering head in front of
the fuel tank.....

.......Activation: If ALL of the following conditions are met, the
EITMS turns off the rear cylinder fuel injector.
• Touring (except FLHR, FLHRC, FLHR CVO, FLHRSE)
and FLHTCUTG: AAT sensor exceeds 80 °F (27 °C)

• FLHR, FLHRC, FLHR CVO, FLHP and FLHTP: ET sensor
exceeds 288 °F (142 °C).......

Deactivation: If ANY of the following occur, the rear cylinder
fuel injector resumes operation:
• Touring (except FLHR, FLHRC, FLHR CVO, FLHRSE,
FLHP and FLHTP) and FLHTCUTG: AAT sensor drops
below 75 °F (24 °C).

• FLHR, FLHRC, FLHR CVO, FLHRSE, FLHP and FLHTP:
ET sensor drops below 275 °F (135 °C) (all configurations).

• ETC is above idle.

• Motorcycle speed exceeds 2 mph (3 km/h).

• Engine speed exceeds 1350 rpm.

• The clutch is released with the motorcycle in gear.

The IAT actually does read quite a bit higher than AAT.

I display both on my PV2, for curiosity's sake.

I don't know why theirs is coming on below 80 however....

im not a fan of the system unless you are in stop and go traffic on a hot *** day I would turn it off........ mine has come on before and stayed on while I was driving,,,, so I turned it off and the issue was fixed. I just don't sit at stop lights for that long when its that hot out. for someone else it may be the cats meow tho.

For what its worth: I would assume the iat (intake air temp) sensor would read a bit higher then the AAT (ambient air temp) sensor depending on the bike moving or sitting still and the position of the AAT. Since the IAT sensor is in the throttlebody ( I believe it is a combined component with the map sensor) at idle sitting the temp might be higher if the air cleaner is sucking in hot air from off the exhaust area but moving it should be sucking in cold ambient air and the AAT may be higher since its next to the frame. but that's just a guess.

Whats the rational behind both sensors? my guess is because some bikes have lower fairings that and at lower speeds the air cleaner sucks in some of the hot exhaust air and the ECM knowing that is good info.

If it did, your bike has some major failures.... like 5 of them. Take it in for warranty work.
