Default 10-40 oil

With winter temps here, are any of you running 10-40 weight oil?

I'll take that as everyone is using 20-50

20-50 here. But I have a heated garage and the bike goes rite back into a heated garage without it being turned off during a ride. Yesterday I pulled it out for a hour long ride in 31 degree temps.

With temps like that I am considering the 10-40. I only have 500 miles so far on my new limited and want to change the oil now. Then back to 20-50 at the 1k service and then Amsoil 20-50 the next change.

What does your owners manual say ? Page 139, table 27 will give you the answer. 20W50 is fine for temps at or above 30 deg F. Below that they recommend 10W40

I know exactly what it says. I was asking if anyone is using 10-40.

I run 15W-50 in the winter and I plug the bike in (it has an oil pan heater,) if it gets below 25 or so. (Hey at 147,000 miles and still no oil consumption, I gotta' be doin' something right!)

I got it from an outfit from TN advertised on EBay. They came in 125W, 250W etc. I got the 125W for $27 or so. I double insulated the wire (vibration abraids wires on high mileage bikes, trust me,) and routed the 110V plug out under the right saddlebag guard.

Had it on a timer when it was parked in a shed. Now I just throw a switch when I roll out of bed in the morning. In an hour or so, the oil is close to room temperature.
