I have a 07 Road king (16,000mi) that the previous owner put 12" apes on. The bars rocked a little & vibrates more than I thought they should so I looked to see what bushings it had. PO had put an extra giant washer under the stock bushing such that the washer contacts the bottom of the tree and squishes the bushings even more.
I took the washer off to see how well the stock bushings would work with just the oem washer cups and the bushings are basically destroyed. tons of play and pretty much fully flattened out, which is why I'm searching for new poly ones.
From what I've read, many have used the stock bushings and were fine at first, but then they deteriate faster than they should and you are no longer able to keep tightening them after a while.

I was thinking the same thing about durability. The polys would obviously last longer, but I may wait until they wear out to replace them. The bike will be back apart in a year or two to do trees and a front wheel anyway.
