thank god for the warranty!!! on my way to dealership today to drop bike off for the 3 time for a cb repair, came to a stoplight half mile away and my bike would not idle. 300- 2500 rpm. I could hold the throttle @ 2k and it would be fine. pulled up to dealership and it died. started it up and pulled in service bay. figured it was a loose battery terminal (had the same symptoms on previous bike). 30mins after I got home I got the call. when they started it, awful noise and only had 4psi oil pressure. when they checked the dipstick, there was none showing. so now I sit and await the verdict.....new or rebuild, and still my cb doesn't work
yes they said the oil was in the crankcase ?? but I specifically asked if it was covered and they said yes. since it is chilly here (28-35F) I always start bike and allow it to warm up before riding (heads warm/hot to touch). no signs of blowing/leaking oil anywhere
I'm new to Harleys. From what I understand, the oil pump consists of 2 pumps. A scavenging pump to remove oil from the crankcase & keep the supply tank full, & a pump to supply pressurized oil from the tank to the engine. If the scavenging pump fails, the supply tank level is low & the engine pump is starved of oil. If that is accurate, I could see how the failure is covered by warranty.
Well, if it's under warranty and you are looking at a new engine, maybe time for the new Screaming Eagle 120st...street tuned/legal and full warranty from Harley!

thanks a bunch.. that explains why he said the crankcase was full and the no oil on dipstick.
as for the 120st why not the 120r, I personally don't want a hopped up motor. I plan to put travel miles not drag on this one. they have a 120r in a lowglide at the dealership 145hp 135 ft torque. my 03 ultra had the 103 stroker and only lasted 25k. i'll be satisfied with a new 4yr warranted 103 wethead motor, but doubt if that will happen

In this case, wouldn't the engine throw a warning the instant the "pressure pump" sucked air?
If your bike is properly services - and this sort of thing happens, I would always think it is a warranty issue. Even if the oil leaked for some reason, that means something broke, cane loose, etc. This in my opinion would still be a warranty matter.
