My wife and I went to Yellowstone, Big Sky and Grand Teton last year with our son. He had his own bike, we were on ours. In 5 days we saw every kind of weather. 90 degrees in West Yellowstone, Pouring rain in Big Sky and snow in Yellowstone. Bring lots of clothes, you will use all of them. As you can see from this picture from the Tetons, it was all worth it. Amazing place We were there in late June.

Visited Cody WY a couple days instead. Pack for all types of weather.
I really hope that doesn't happen this year!

Being blessed with living around Bozeman, MT, I have been to the park MANY times. You can expect any type of weather any time of the year. For me, it's only a day trip but I still "layer up" and take the rain gear. You have to keep your eyes open no matter what direction you take into the park as there is wildlife EVERYWHERE! Moose, White tail and Mule deer, Elk, Big horn sheep, Black bear, Antelope (Turbo Goats), Coyote, Badger, Sand hill cranes, Golden and Bald Eagles, Hawks, Falcons, and just about any critter that lives out here. The best way to ride is two up with your passenger as the designated "Gawker" (some one has to watch the road!). There is way too much to see in one day and the views are spectacular! Get up early and catch the sunrise, and be sure to catch the sunsets too. No matter how many fantastic pictures you take, when you get home they just won't seem to do the scenery justice. I know, I have lived here since '90 and still enjoy every day to the fullest. I hope you take your time, and enjoy all "The Park" has to offer. Be safe, and ENJOY!

I went from sturgis , thru the bear tooth pass to Cooke city Mt, to Yellowstone , and once we paid entrance fee had to completely gear up for 40 degree weather , take all your riding gear. August! That grey stuff was snow!

I want to come do the park after all the schools open, or at least that is what I have been told is the best time to go. Do you agree that this is the best time of the year to see the park on my bike? I realize that the weather is variable, just trying to get your opinion on the subject.

Thanks.

I have been all around it in a cage, but not into the park.
I live an hour and a half from the ice field parkway between jasper and banff, it sounds like the same kinda place, minus the buffalo. Really want to do that ride at some point. Every time I head to the US is a good time.

Early to mid September is a good time if you want to avoid the biggest part of tourist season. BUT.... there is a greater chance of early snow then and morning temps will be LOW. The fall colors are at their finest. There is a greater chance of seeing more wildlife too as all are getting ready for winter. A good pair of binoculars is a must, (I also take a spotting scope and tripod) as you can spot more wildlife further from the roads. Last fall I watched a great 7x7 bull Elk and his harem for about an hour. He was about a mile away and if I had a quarter for everyone that I let look through the spotting scope, I could have paid off the '14 Limited! If there is anything else you want to know, just drop me a PM and we can chat.

Yellowstone kicks ***. I was there in Sept 13 and can't wait to go back. Mixed weather as all have reported but generally pleasant.
