Default Fairing inside removal

Want to wire some aux. lighting and want to use Aux. switches on the lower inside fairing?? Anyone have any experience that they could share with me ???
Perhaps how to get to the switches or removing inner fairing. The lights are 4 emergency response strobe lights in a row that will mount just above the fairing vent at the bottom windshield mounts. Thanks so much for your time...

The lower panel with the switches by the key is removed by taking out the torx screw on each side. You do not have to remove the ignition. You have to turn the wheel each way to get the panel past the gas tank. Removing the gas tank makes it alot easier.

Default Thanks

The book says to remove the ignition **** and the hold down nut. But I think you need a special tool for that nut. That's where I stopped. Will try your advice. Thanks so much for your time Brother.

Have you added the extra accessory switches or are you trying to add them now? If not are you going to connect the lights to the accessory switch that came factory on the bike? If you are using the factory switch, you don't need to do any of that, the connector is under the seat. If you are adding the extra ones that go in the left dash panel, then you just need to do what Steve suggested, because you still will not do any wiring there, you will only connect the switches and the harness will plug into the connector in the side panel (I think that was where it is, it's been a while since I did it, but it was there or under the seat also).

Just removed my inner fairing over the winter to have fairing mirror holes filled and repainted to match Charcoal Pearl. Did not care for the painted gloss black that it came with.

I easily removed ignition with key and by depressing button underneath ignition switch. I then removed the special 2 sided nut with an adjustable wrench. Just taking my time and making sure I didn't scratch anything. Even though I had the tank covered. I still had to turn steering to remove cover.

There was a few times that I went too far with ignition removed and locked the steering. I was able to replace ignition and easily unlock.

I remember a YouTube video where someone made a tool out of copper tubing to free the locked steering. I never had any trouble using ignition to get back unlocked.

I did make sure to apply painters tape on new painted parts during reinstall to avoid scratching the paint.

Just time and patience is needed.
