If you don't, don't... but dont' bitch when your Boom! won't boot right up.
The computers on these bikes, while leaps and bounds ahead of the odels 10 years ago, aren't nearly as sophisticated as those in modern cars and trucks. I'm not taking any chances. It's right there next to your thumb... how hard is it? easier than moving your hand all the way to the center, then back to the grip when you lean it over on it's stand.
Y'all have fun in this thread!
I'll go ahead and add this to the ever-growing list of reasons I won't buy a used bike as my primary ride.
No arguing from me. I am now using it, using it real good.
All right, after reading all of these posts I decided to tell my tale. I shut off my 2014 Limited mostly with the switch on the right handle bar but not always. Never had a problem until this last Tuesday.
I was checking out my lighting system on Monday night in the garage and I turned the ignition switch off and locked the forks. I forgot to shut off the switch on the right handle bar. I was going for a ride on Tuesday morning, backed out of the garage and the bike would not start. Anti theft system was activated. First I changed the battery on the fob 4 times. Next I got the reserve fob and put in a battery and no luck.
I noticed that the flashing lights were not shutting down, I think they shut down after 10 minutes. Finally I pulled the main fuse waited about 30 seconds and reinstalled fuse. Anti theft was reset and bike started. I can not say for sure it was caused by the switch on the right hand bar
but that is my tale. Bike started fine after that.

Wow! All this for a kill switch....LOL. I have to use the kill switch on my limited. I have the CVO download that makes the main switch good for locking the front fork only. The trigger switch puts it in acc mode and the kill switch turns the ignition on. The plug to the main switch is disconnected. I have not used the main switch since I rode it home.
Dude if you can get 3 steps away from your bike without looking back at it...
....you bought the wrong bike!
That's exactly what I was thinking , whatever way you shut it down, if you don't look at it at least once after you dismount , you are riding someone else's bike.
