Default Slip Ons Fell Down

I was riding into work today and my left slip on dropped from underneath the bag and scraped the ground. It stayed attached to the pipe, but the bolts holding it under the bag came loose. Has this happened to anyone else? Do yall use blue threadlocker on those bolts?

My right side muffler came off and went bouncing down the highway after Toledo Harley replaced my rear tire. Left side was still at tight as ever. They have to pull one muffler to get the axle out. Funny thing was, the axle comes out the other side. I installed the rineharts and never had a problem with mufflers coming loose. The other thing was, it came off the pipe also, So the only conclusion was they pulled that muffler off, realized it was the other, pulled that one, reinstalled and forgot to tighten the other one. The bike had 18000 miles on it and I have had the bags off bunch of times. I would have noticed a loose muffler wiping it down and handling it. I do all my own service and seldom if ever overlook anything. Being a collateral duty inspector in the Navy taught me to the 18 inch rule, look around the repair area.

Anyways, use nylock nuts if you can.

Never had that problem, and have changed mufflers plenty of times on various HD's. Make sure you have the proper size lock washer on those bolts, and torque to specs. Blue Locktite will work great also, if you let it set before you ride the bike.

I just had my tire changed so I'm wondering if they didn't torque the bolts down.

I would go straight back to whomever changed the tire and tell them they owe me a muffler.

There is no friggin excuse for that kind of ****.

Pure incompetence.

I check after a work is done. I have caught the muffler bolts loose after a rear tire change and transmission fluid overfilled that caused leaking.

Also happened to me after the stealership changed the rear tire.

Has never happened after I have swapped mufflers and done the work myself.
