Default Yaffe Monkey Bagger Bars on a 15' SGS

I had my mechanic mount the 12" Yaffe bars on my 15' SGS last week - he said everything went well until the last step - installing the TBW grip.
The 1" stock bar for the Electronics, Brake & TBW grip is too short and won't allow the grip to mount deep enough to get the TBW controls inside the bars to fully engage in the tabs of the bar and as a result the grip & TBW controls spin freely without throttle response
From a few of his quick measurements he says that the electronics pod on the 15" SG is almost 1/2" wider than on the earlier models.
I might be able to put a different grip on (I'm using PM XL Contour) but it might be hit and miss as to what might work.
I have an email into Yaffe - awaiting on a response - I'll give a few days the call them if I don't hear back.
Has anyone else mounted Yaffe bars on a 15' SG and run into any issues?

I had the same problem, and found out the TBW was right but the bars were machined short were the groove is at where the controls stop. They need to machine the groove more so you can slide the controls over more then the grip will slide over more and catch. I dremeled the inside of my control housing just a little bit so it would slide over more and that worked, you can't see where I dremeled as it was done on the inside edge of the control.

Sounds like the 15s are different and yaffe needs to get there chit together, these bars are expencive. I have yaffes on a 14 and they fit perfectly, I do mean perfectly. Any valencies and I would have had issues. Contact them asap, pretty good CS.

I don't think the 15's are different. I think they have some bars with some bad cuts where the controls go. If they would have cut the groove about a 1/8 more it would be ok. My cut at the groove was un even that's why it didn't work at first.

Your probably right, im not looking at them as you are. Guess what im saying is the bars I got were right on the money, no issues and I couldn't have asked for any better fit, like I made them myself lol :-)

I AM GOING THROUGH THE EXACT SITUATION RIGHT NOW , had to remove my 12 inch yaffes and put stock back on . mine was all dealer installed , no issues there . Yaffes have acknowledged a manufacturing issue on the last run of bars , have new ones coming in a couple weeks . mines a 2014 SGS

frurstrating ? yes - but my dealer and Yaffe have been great

That's interesting and reassuring that I'm not the only one with issues - being that they are already installed and the installer was not at fault - is Yaffe picking up the tab to remove the old ones and install the new ones without the issues?
Guess I'll inquire when I call them on Monday

I spoke with Yaffe earlier today on the phone.
Yaffe told me that they are aware of the issue with not having enough room to mount the new electronics controls and the grip so that the grip will push the TWB in far enough to engage into the cut-outs in the bar and that they are currently re-tooling their equipment to make this section of the bar longer.
They think that when the 14's first rolled out, that they had a surplus of the older smaller electronic controls left over and used them up first, then sometime late 2014 they started installing the new larger controls and it was only about a month ago that they started seeing the issues.
Basically they told me there are 3 solutions:
1) replace your bars - they will switch the bars out (once available) but labor is on the owner
2) Install their Yaffe grips - as their grips have an end piece that is adjustable longer/shorter - the offered me a 10% discount on new grips
3) Insert a spacer inside the existing grips to push the TBW in to engage in the bar and hope that there is enough splines in the grip to engage with the TBW.

In the end I bought the new grips - although Im disappointed in a company that doesn't stand 100% behind their products - I guess this is what happens when a company farms to their parts to someone else to make it for them, then just slap on their name as sells as theirs.

If you have a post 13' SG and buy Yaffe bars, you may want to do a quick measurement to make sure the bars you bought will work with your set-up, measure well as there is less than a 1/4" difference

thanks for that info , I'm going the new bar route , that really really disappoints me with yaffe as had them on my 2011 and waited weeks on weeks for the first set as i stood behind the name when many others stated they used other brand with no issues , Wild 1, KST etc etc - yet i stood behind yaffe and paid more to have theirs. since i have already paid for the whole job and my dealer been great , i will see how this plays out .
but Yaffe won't be on the shopping list next time thats for sure , like seriously 10% off the grips ? how bout send a set no charge
