Most of the new big V8 engines have cylinders cut off when not under load even going down the hwy to be more fuel efficient without have any impact of the engine durability.
And our bikes aren't balanced V8 engines.... and they don't drop at highway speeds.
NONE of the modern automobile engines drop to 1 cylinder....
My '14 RAM 1500 4x4 CC has VDS, and drops cylinders on the highway, but not at idle.
Automobiles do it for fuel mileage, bikes do it for rider's comfort.
Has anyone else noticed that, generally speaking, it's the guys up north that worry about the heat, and the guys in Texas and Florida that don't?
I'm from the ghetto in Michigan, and lived a lot of years in the Northern Lower in the snowbelt... so I understand it does get hot up there....
But I never saw 115° up there like I have here either.
It's all dependent upon what people get used to. Some people in the south are putting on a huge parka or multiple layers of clothes when the temp drops into the 50's while people in the north are still wearing shorts.
I rode the bike to the dentist and back...no more than a 15 minute ride each way. EITMS came on both times at stop lights.
I have made my final decision. Once I change the head pipes to catless I am turning off the EITMS.
That is if I can wait that long...
No need to wait. I turned mine off the moment I left the dealership.
Mine was disabled when I took delivery and I think it's kind of a regional thing. It gets hot here (my ride home from Sturgis last year the heat index was 111). But we hardly ever set in traffic.....our towns just ain't that big. But I wonder if a guy wouldn't want it enabled riding through Sturgis this summer.
I just don't see the need for it on my last 2 bikes (2010 ltd & 2015 ltd)...I especially don't see the need on my twin-cooled Ltd...that thing runs cool with the cat removed...
I rode all day yesterday (300 miles) city driving chicago area and on the interstate (2014 limited). The EITMS came on at every light but the bike seemed to do just fine. I had a a 2010 ultra classic with the 96 engine, boy that thing generated some heat. The limited is much cooler. Leaving my EITMS on it really works.
