Default Engine Operating Temp - Should I be concerned?

I posted the following question in the touring section and although most said the engine temp was normal, it was suggested I post the question here because the engine temp reading from my PV may be too high. What do you think? Do I need to make changes to the tuning to bring down the temps? Thanks for any info. Original post:

Bike is a 13' RGC with FullSac Sportpipe, recored mufflers, SE Intake and a PV with 3 or 4 auto tune runs and I run Redline in all 3 holes. I know the newer bikes run hot but I expected the PV tuner to bring the temps down some. Went for a very short ride yesterday with the following numbers: Outside temps were around 95* give or take a couple degrees. Ride was about 10 miles long on surface streets with 4 or 5 red lights along the way and speeds around 45mph. Power Vision was reading engine temp as high as 305* at about 7 or 8 miles into the trip. Bike runs good but these temps continue to concern me. I guess I expected after tuning the bike with the PV, the bike would run cooler than it does. More in the 275* range. Any cause for concern here or is this the norm?

I wouldn't be too concerned. These big motors run hot. If there's no air moving over the cooling fins (like in traffic or at a stop light) they get hot fast. That's pretty normal for a 95 deg. day.

Sounds like you don't have the EITMS (Extended Idle Temp. Management System) turned on. It helps limit the temp rise.

You can check/adjust it with the PV.
-Set ON/OFF under Limits & Switches
-Set ON/OFF temps under Environment

Mine is set to 284 deg. ON/275 deg. off. It generally keeps temps under 290-300 deg.

My cruising temps went down with Stage 1/Stage 2 changes, FM 2-1-2 header and PV. Idle temps stayed about the same.

I only run Synthetic oil in these bikes. Its less likely to break down under high temp conditions. I like the extra margin.

I have a 2012 with the 103 but running TTS.

Looking at several data runs I did in Georgia during the summer (most of them with OAT in the low 90's), one of the higher records indicated an air intake temp of 140* and engine temp of only 246* at the end of a run of about 40 minutes, a distance of 21 miles (with stop lights and signs), and then sitting in my driveway, getting off the bike, opening the TP, and stopping the computer.

IMHO, I think your figures are a bit high.
