I wouldn't think that they would use another piston supplier since they now get there pistons from Mahle and they have been good pistons. So it make me suspect back down to the lifter's or maybe the stock cam bearings. I know I'm seeing where a lot of guys having bleed down's on start up which is not a good sign on a new engine.
I don't know cause mine could be the next one down but I replaced my lifters when I installed cams at 900 miles along with New SE cam bearings. So far so good !!!!
After reading your posts, I was gonna suggest that you hold out for a complete new engine.
They'll probably send the motor back to the MOCO so that they can there it down there, would be my guess.
I've been seeing posts on other forums regarding knocking engines on '14's too. Sounds like they tried to save a few cents per engine by cheaping-out on some parts and ended up costing themselves bigtime.
They just never seem to learn, do they? I've heard that the definition of an idiot is someone who keeps doing the same thing over and over, but expects a different outcome every time. That seems to apply to the MOCO perfectly.
I love my bike but you would think on a $23000 bike they would use some of the best parts not try saving money on the lowest price cheapest built part.profit margin on add on parts has to be huge settle for that saying all that I still love my bike.

Don't buy that line of crap that jcooch is trying to feed you.
Like every other manufacturer they strike a balance. Your HD is not built with the absolute cheapest crap available.
Furthermore, even if it was built with only the most expensive hand crafted exotic materials and went through 10 rounds of quality control checking and testing, with the volume of products they move there will still be failures in the field.
Harley is giving him a new engine, they're making it right. No person or company is perfect, making right by mistakes is the most we should ever expect.

Interesting. Did they happened to mentioned what would have caused all these issues? The thing that catches my attention is the carbon on the pistons. Would oil from the crankcase vent tube spitting into the cylinders have caused this?
I too am curious? What caused this failure. Did the oil pump fail?
Got a call from the dealer this afternoon. They got the bike put back together and said it was quiet at idle but still knocking under power. They are going to call HD Monday and see what they say. I'm going to the dealership tomorrow and talk to them face to face. I'm going to request they put a new engine in. I really don't want a rebuilt engine in a $28k bike. I paid good money for a good bike and that's what I expect to get.

it would seem after all they have done to your engine and it is still knocking time for a new engine.
This is why I will leave my 2014 limited stock until all warranties run out.
They have said nothing about warranty issues. The only way they can legally void your warranty on a claim is if they can prove whatever modification or aftermarket part you installed or had installed caused the failure.
