Glad it's working out for you, and props to you for treating your dealer and their staff like fellow human beings.
It's amazing how much of a difference that can make, and really sad that more customers don't give that a try.
I learned a long time ago that treating people with respect gets things accomplished. It may take a little longer to get things done but I'd rather have it done right than quick and not right.
I got my bike back today. I wasn't able to go to the dealership because my wife was sick. I called the dealer and told them I couldn't come today and they offered to deliver it. They got to my house about 1:30 this afternoon. I took it for a short ride and everything felt and sounded great. The work order showed when the tech dropped the oil pan he found a lot of metal. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if they can find out what Harley finds when they tear the old engine down.
asked my dealer same question about mine told me harley will not tell them anything.
Yep.....same thing here. Mine was the second one at my dealer to knock and fill oil pan and filter with metal. They me told HD will not tell them what they find after inspecting engine. Nice!! my guess is they have an issue and hopefully my bike is gone before it comes back again.
Ok so i have a question. This thread has a lot of legs, i just picked up a used 14 limited and its my 1st experience with this emits system or whatever you call it. When my bike is idling i hear what sounds like a knock....is it or is it that the rear piston is just not running with spark and compression....sorry for the dumb question, but if i am hearing what i perceive to be a knock i want to get some opinions from those who have had these bikes....thanks

When at idle & you're hearing the noise, press the info switch (forward part of right turn signal) & you'll get a screen that will tell you if EITMS is active or not. If active, you can try turning it off to verify if your noise is from EITMS or if it's something else.
My wifes bike 2015 Limited Low has had a knocking noise since we have owned it...it only happens when at engine warm temps and at idle...it apparently is the compensator....they have ordered some shims it is out of spec and causes the compensator to sound like it's out of round...

ok that is very interesting. i will look into that.
as far as checking to see if the emtis system is active or not i can just turn the throttle to turn it on or off. i will check that first.
You're right. My dealer said HD won't tell them anything. I think that's crap. I paid for it, I should be able to know what they find.
The logistics of tracking a single engine failure and having contact are a a nightmare and do not happen. Even a hundred failures are a tiny percentage of what is out there. I work in automotive and have 0 contact with the warrantty test center, but when they find a common isssue, supplier, batch, etc they issue a service bulletin on why and what to do. If it is a big problem we will find out but likely a batch of crap bearings and all makes are seeing lousy bearings made cheaply. Mike
