The other day I noticed that when I went to start my bike, the odometer said it was in DIAG mode. Sweet. No idea why or how that happened, I tried to shut it down and start it up a couple different says. No change. I ran an errand, the bike sat for a while, and when I came out the problem mysteriously went away. But I noticed the odometer was showing TRIP A.
I hit the odometer cycle button a couple times and noticed nothing happened. I took off wondering WTH was going on, but after hitting the button just right on the outside edge, it seemed to work. Now, today, the button doesn't work at all. I'm a bit annoyed that something has already stopped working at under 500 miles.
So, tomorrow I get to call the dealership and have it replaced under warranty. I also want them to look at the valve lash, because it's getting to the point where the noise is annoying me while I ride. I understand valve lash is one of the checked items at the 1k service, but it's getting ridiculous. I really, really hope this isn't a sign of issues to come.
Nope, this isn't a BMW forum, thought I was lost for a minute.

The best way to fix the valve noise is to get a better exhaust, and turn the stereo up.
I've found the best way for me is to wear a full face helmet with head phones in it. I don't hear the whiny trans, the valve train, or the squeaky spring on the jiffy stand.

Hmmmm! Mine doesn't have the squeaky spring noise from the jiffy stand. I'll have to ask the dealer why it's lacking the squeak.
You can put the system in to diag mode by holding down the trip button while turning the bike on. Sounds like yours has a trip button problem for sure.
Valve lash is checked at 1,000? Where did you read that?
Yeap! Mixing up the previous bike's service schedule and the new one. These being hydraulic and this loud blows me away.

Yeah, I've got the Screamin' Eagle Street Cannons. They're about as loud as I want, and I can hear the tapping clearly. And that's with a full face on AND the stereo cranking out tunes.

Yeah, I figured the malfunctioning button was the cause once I figured out the button was malfunctioning. I guess the good news is that it's a 6 second job to pull the buttons off the handlebars.
My bike is in the dealer today for the exact same thing. Trip button doesn't work and speedo say DIAG intermittently. They said they will have to replace the whole assembly and not just the switch.
