Others with more knowledge of the electrical system can verify if this will work or not, but couldn't an auxiliary switch and relay be installed to control power to the radio?

I'd be surprised if it was that simple, but you never know.

Would be great if it was, though. I'd be in line to get a switch for mine right now!

Not sure that's possible. The radio has power to it all the time, waiting for the can-bus signal to tell it to "turn on"

Should be software programmable to "Double click" (just like a double click of your mouse button) to that mute button to turn it off, instead of hold for 3 seconds.

Turn the volume down and paint the screen black. If you need more than that just remove the radio and sell it. Sound like you would be happier that way.

Why you probably need it on (even if you don't listen or look at it much) is to monitor your oil pressure ever so often.

Of course I like to listen to mine most of the time, but often I will put it on the info screen for oil pressure.
