I have a rattle that comes and goes not there all the time and it is bad when down shifting or free wheeling at low speeds then it goes away just started this weekend have not had a chance to put it on the lift yet didn't know if the people with compensater problems had noise all the time
thanks
Ron
My wifes 2015 Limited Low had an awful noise coming from the compensator....the dealer replaced it, shimmed it, new bearings in Trans....but when I saw several posts here on this site that several had changed the oil in the compensator to Harley's plus oil....I gave it a chance and changed to oil back to that....and it solved the problem...not sure why that would be the case but it did...
I had some comp noise on my Ultra, was running Syn3 and did so for 10k.
Switched to Formula + and for the last thousand I have not really noticed it.
BTW, not sure how many have noticed this, but book calls for 38oz.
I measured a qt of + and it had 37oz in it.
Added 1oz Syn3 and it's a lot easier to find N and clutch feels better
Same issue on my '14 Limited when I changed the primary oil during the 1K to Syn3. Sounded horrible. Put Formula+ in the primary and it has been nice and quiet for the last 43K miles.
I did my 1k service and used formula+ and noticed the noise. My dealer said its normal although I can't see how it can be so at 5k, I put in 20w-50 Amsoil and it quited it down a tiny amount. I rode in 90° temps yesterday and it wasn't as loud when the rear cylinder cut out. I'm not sure if oil brands matter much but the comps shouldn't be this noisy since the bike's are designed to be quite so it passes the sound limit tests.
I have redline in the trans made a big difference in my wife's bike not so much in mine with shifting and things I have specrol in the primary this noise started this weekend in 90 pluss temps
Have a 2015 Limited, no problems either the first 1k miles, had it serviced and was fine for another 1500 miles, last week i changed all the fluids out to Amzoil.....now it has a rough idle, misses and sounds like there is a midget in the primary with a ball pin hammer........have an appointment to take it in saturday but am going to change the primary to formula + and a thicker trans fluid first.....hope it cures the problem......
