They charged you 3 hours of labor and then pay and reward the mechanic more the faster he can do the work. For those that think they are going through that whole list unless you are standing there watching them then it's not happening. Mine hasn't been in even for the 1k and won't be in unless it's warranty or computer related.
I have a 2015 Ultra Limited took it in Wednesday 1000 check up & recall work. After waiting for over 3 hours at Dealership Tech calls me back says bike is ready. All done and said I was charged 399.80 for a flipping oil change
this bike will never see another Dealership again. But That's what H.D. stands for Hundred Dollars...............
Less fluids, my 1K service was $199.31. Let me guess, you had it done at San Jacinto H-D? I saved hundreds by doing my 5K myself.
All auto dealers charge any where from $100 to $150 an hour to cover the overhead, we just can't calculate the whole cost from what are employees are paid for an hr because there is way more involve in doing business. I do most of maintenance myself not because of the money only but I enjoy using tools. I'll take my bikes in mostly for tire changes or warranty work to my dealer.Every time my bikes comes out of the shop I always like recheck and go over all the work was performed to have a piece of mind.If you have the ability to perform all required checklist for maintaining your bike you know it's done right and you get to know your bike very well. Anything specific is out of your ability to perform you can have that done by a tech and just pay for that particular item labor .

I'm coming up on my 10K service, local dealer has the 10K posted, $540 with dino oil, Syn3 in the motor it's a little more. I asked why so much more then the 5K (about $375), they said they pull the tires and lube the axles so when you come in for a tire change the axles come out freely, he said the axles have a tendency to seize up inside the wheel and they sometimes have to beat them out. BS? Probably, I'll either let my Indy do it (only cause I'd like him to pull the primary cover and make sure all is good in there) or I'll do it myself, doesn't look that much harder then the 5K I did.
So . . . I'm thinking you didn't ask what the charge would before? If not, shame on you. My 1000 service was just south of $300. If were younger, I would DK it myself. But there is something to be said about dropping my bike off set the dealer, walking two blocks for a nice breakfast, then going back and riding my clean, serviced bike the lung way home,

That sounds pretty reasonable and having breakfast instead of monkeying with the oil is not bad deal.
Plus you become familiar with your bike, or bikes. There is a member here who has a signature that reads something like " The wiser you spend the more you have to spend"
something like that. Spend smart, ride safe, enjoy the new ride.
Big jerry, so you let them do the service without knowing what the total price would be?
Did you sign the work order? IMHO, you should be pissed off at yourself, not the dealer. You hosed yourself.
