I'll look to see if my softail filter is vented. It was just pulled apart because of a leaking base gasket and the pistons looked like the piston on the bottom. Very clean.

Running a filter at the end of the hose not only guards against the very small chance of anything getting back up into the engine, but the bigger benefit is that it will absorb the oil and other gunk, not leaving drips in the driveway or garage, and not spraying the underside of the bike with oil mist to attract a layer of dirt.

If you are running a filter at the end of the hose and getting oil dripping out of it, it is either-

A cheap filter (or more than 5000 miles since the filter was cleaned)
Too much oil or crankcase pressure
Too low of a viscosity of oil for the temps being ridden in
Worn or defective butterfly valves

If you're going to install the breather kit, you shouldn't need to change the breather bolts on your 14 Limited. I didn't when I installed mine.

The Outlaw Breather Bolts are designed to work with a variety of aftermarket air cleaners. They will not work with the stock 14 Ultra Limited air cleaner.

The External Breather System for that bike, with the stock A/C is the Discrete & Flexible Head Breather System, you can see it at this LINK
