The plug cap can be bent a little also. I bent mine and the wire no longer touches anything. I just don't know why the moco doesn't get their supplier to change the angle of the plug. Evidently they don't check these forums for good helpful info.
Grrr mine is the same damm thing wore half way through the first riding season, what the hell .. I will be off to Harley next week looking for a replacement wires as my back one has some wear on it also but no where near as bad as the front wire..
Same issue with mine and the service department changed it with no questions asked.
BTW I did read somewhere that certain Goldwings have a problem also with some ignition wires rubbing on the tanks and Honda issued a National Safety Recall to fix the problem. Not sure if it was the spark plug wires or some other ignition/electrical wires.
Edit: It wasn't the Goldwing, its the Kawasaki Vulcan 1700
Never noticed before but I have wear on mine as well.. My '06 Night Train was zip tied behind horn on motor/horn mount from factory. Might look into doing same thing to RG on plug/wire change this winter.
I'm guessing from the pic (thanks OP) that the wear spot is about 2 inches down from the cap, does that sound about right? And does everyone's wire wear at the same spot? I've eyeballed mine and it looked OK, tomorrow I'll go out and feel around a bit, might be worn on the back side where you can't see it. Thanks!

Can't find any wear on either of mine either.
I've traced each wire from the plug all the way back to the the coil, and no wear marks.

Yep, right about that spot. We've spot checked three rushmores and they ALL had rub spots on the front cylinder plug wire at the spot where it contacts the fuel tank.
