Noticed mine within the first week, kept an eye on it knowing it would wear. Sure enough at around 500 miles started noticing some slight wear. Just wrapped it with heavy duty electrical tape in that spot, still holding well at 3000 miles. Just make a point to check it every so often.

Kinda makes me wonder why some bikes have this (and other) problem and some don't, do some of the assembly line workers notice and fix these problems immediately and some don't? All the plug wires should be the same and if installed correctly none should make contact, maybe some of the workers are a little more conscientious and others are not. Same with coolant not being purged properly, headlights out of alignment, all problems that could be eliminated with a little more attention to detail. Not defending or blaming, just saying...

Thanks O.P. For the heads up! After reading this thread, went out to the garage and sure enough, the plug wire is showing substantial wear @ 9000 kilometers..... sigh.

I have followed that wire up from the plug all the way to up under the tank, and it does not contact the tank at all.

As I said, there are no wear marks at all on the plug wires.
I've tried taking a picture, but it just isn't in a good enough place to point a camera to get a good enough view.

Checked mine again today, felt all the way up as far as I could go and didn't feel anything or see any contact with the tank. Funny how some touch and some don't...thanks to the OP for the thread.

Checked mine this afternoon when I got home from work. Rubbing on the tank like others have found. Glad to see this thread or I wouldn't have even thought about checking for this problem.

A big thanks to the OP. Mine has a big divot rubbed into it. Isn't worn through to the wire yet but I wouldn't have noticed it. Tank has been off several times and still didn't notice it until I was looking for it.

Just check mine and found a deep worn out spot on the front plug wire of my 2015 Road Glide CVO with 10K miles. I wrapped some electrical tape and plan to take it to the dealer tomorrow for replacement. Thanks for the reminder.

Does the fuel tank need to be removed to replace the front spark plug wire?

Just checked mine and it's rubbing a spot in the wire where it rubs the tank (2015 SGS). Just curious for guys that took it to the dealer and had it replaced.....won't it just do the same thing again? I'm thinking some electrical tape like suggested would be a good cure.

First heard of this about a year ago on this forum. I put a piece of fuel line over the divot I had. I move it around often and it shows signs of wear each time. Two weeks ago, I had tires put on and brought it to their attention. It was fixed under warranty, of course the part had to be ordered. I asked if there was a service bulletin for this, the answer is NO. I can't believe a known problem like this has not been taken care of.

CPTDENNY, they did remove my tank. The wire is secured high up, under the tank, on the backbone.
