Curious why you wouldn't want to use Basecamp; I use it and have great success with it on the HD GPS every time. Once you get the hang of it, it's a great program, easy to use and integrates flawlessly with the bike as far as I have experienced.

BaseCamp is a great program. Easy to use to plan out a good ride. If you have any hints or kinks to share I'd appreciate it. I'd like to make this work 100%.

BaseCamp is a great program. Easy to use to plan out a good ride. If you have any hints or kinks to share I'd appreciate it. I'd like to make this work 100%.
1. I highlight the completed route in basecamp, let's say the route is called, "Rock Inn". This route contains the complete route as planned; all my waypoints, stops, etc. in the order I put them in the route.
2. With the "Rock Inn" route highlighted, I select File>Export>Export Selection... I browse and save the gpx route file to a folder of my choice.
3. I copy that gpx file to the root (not inside any folder) of my thumb drive.
4. I connect the thumb drive to the bike, turn on the ignition switch to Accessory.
5. From the Nav screen, (sorry, I don't know the exact menu names off the top of my head) I select Menu, Import, and choose the thumb drive. It then lists what's on the thumb drive... I select (and this the important part), the name of the gpx file ONLY ("Rock Inn"). I do not select any of the waypoints or anything else, just the gpx file name (remember, this is the route you saved and it already contains all of you waypoints, etc.).
Once I select the gpx file name (Rock Inn), I press the little Import icon, and it imports, usually within a few seconds it's done.
6. After it's imported, from the Nav screen, I then select Where To; that screen will have selections like Address, Home, etc... you want to select "More", then from there, select Trips, select the name of your GPX file you imported (called "Rock Inn"), it will calculate the route, and you will have the option to press GO. And that's it. Always works great for me.
If it still hangs halfway for you, perhaps try a different thumb drive, or reformat the one you have. I've never had an issue.
Hope this helps!

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
The only way I was able to fix the problem was to do a factory reset. It will wipe all saved info and some settings.
This is out of the 2014 Touring electrial diagnostic manual. Maybe try this? To enter the service menu:
1. Turn IGN OFF. Wait 15 seconds.
2. Press and hold power/mute button. Turn IGN? to ACC.
3. Continue to press power button for 2 seconds after the WARNING screen is displayed.
4. Release power/mute button and accept warning.
The service menu may display Diag Service not Availiable when a menu option is initially selected. This message will clear once the system has finished performing the power-on process. Options are: DTCs, Audio, Display, Key input, Component menus, Version info, Reset, Touchscreen.
Reset: Pre-calibration reset: Restores fatory default settings. This is recommended when there are radio symptoms and no DTCs*
Post calibration save: Archives customers settings so that they can be restored after a Post calibration Reset.
Post calibration reset: Resets the radio to factory default settings and restores the last archive data stored during Post calibration Save. Give it a whirl? Let me know if this works?
