I am new to this bike coming off a Road King and starting to think I have made a mistake in my choice . I am 6ft-1" with a 30" inseam(very long torso). The wind noise I am getting even with a 15.5 inch harley shield is deafening. Can't even here my stereo past 40mph. I have the wind deflectors on and have tried experimenting with vents to no avail . Strong wind push coming up from bottom of bike on both sides . Are all full fairing bikes like this or am I missing something . I jumped on my old bike after taking new one out for an hour and what a difference in wind noise. Can any one give a few pointers here. Are lowers going to be a big improvement or am I spending $700 to just slightly improve things. I have a 14" windvest coming this week to try but I can't see that solving everything neither . Lets here from some of the taller guys on here .
Probably the surest and cheapest way to solve your problem is a 3/4 helmet with a Harley headset.I went from a 2013 RK to a 2016 SGS and yes there is more wind noise.I am 6'1 and went up one size Harley w/shield with a lip on top which stopped any buffeting, but still hear lots of wind noise without a helmet on.
[QUOTE=NODYNA;14558610]You can also try the Road Glide wind deflector kit # 57000510 @ $39.95.[/QUOTE
Yep got it already. I should try it without them on.
I am built similar to you, I'm 6' even with a 30" inseam, so I sit high. I did 3 things that made a vast improvement. I bought a 12" Klock werks pro touring windshield, and moved my the crash bar deflectors, and lowers over from my old ride.
I had 3 shields before I settled on the 12" KW. I started with the stock shield, then a 12" freedom shields, then the 15" Klock Pro touring. the 15 was OK, but the 12 works way better for me. Thinking this height in combination with the vents make it work better than the 15"
You can get some cheap lowers (old style) on ebay for about $70. They only come in Vivid Black, and the quality is pretty good.
What color is your ride?

Put a REAL windshield on it. One with a top edge that is just below your line-of-sight while looking straight ahead.
Have you ever seen pics of the original "Tour Glides" ?? That's a "real windshield" ....
Agree! I haven't heard anything good about the optional Harley windshield & most riders feel the the stock windscreen is worthless. Plenty of good after market windshields out there that seem to work well for owners.
I have a 2015 RGS and I am 6'4". I installed a 15" HD Wind Splitter, HD Road Glide Wind Deflector Kit and the GADS wind deflectors ($40). I have no problem listening to my stock radio at freeway speeds even with ear plugs.
