Rockout shims and new lifters installed!
Straight-forward job, but extremely tedious and high anxiety (for me, anyway) none-the-less. But I got it done without a scratch, dent, or any leftover parts, other than the OEM lifters.
I was really pissed when I first started it and it was clattering something awful for a little while till the lifters finally filled up with oil. While I was cussing a blue streak, I found a line in the several pieces of paperwork that came with the lifters saying that this is normal.
After a minute or so, they started quietening down till the valve train became essentially silent. Apparently, they come with just a very small amount of assembly lube in them and that's the reason for the noise. The instructions specifically said to NOT pre-fill them with oil, so I didn't. It said that if you pre-fill them, it takes up to 24 hours (I think) for them to fully bleed down so that you can safely rotate the engine to install them for the other cylinder.
Also, I noted well-defined witness marks on all four carrier bolt shanks from the rocker shafts hammering on them, and I have to say, the OEM Made-in-Mexico lifters looked pretty rough sitting beside those premium, Made-in-USA Woods parts. All of the original lifter's rollers were pristine with no scoring or flaking, so I was happy about that, anyway.
I want to say a big THANK YOU to Bikerscum for finding the original problem and then designing and producing the fix - and for a super-low price, at that!

Can't wait to get the ol' girl out on the road and enjoy the peace and quiet, and also the fact that I no longer have to dread doing that job sometime in the future!!

Imitated, never equaled... ROCKOUTS!

For the record, I did run the engine with the starter and the plugs out for 3, 20 or so second runs before actually starting it.

Witness marks on the rear.
They were more than marks those bolts had gouges in them.
The front only had one.
I've been busy so I won't have a chance to hear the engine until this weekend.

You don't have to go into the cam chest to install the kit, as a matter of fact the only two similarities for each job were the removal of the spark plugs.
