2014 Audio, Why does the sound change when bike is running ?
Doesn't make sense to me so if anyone can explain and maybe share some in site would be awesome. With the bike not running the system sounds great, bike running like a different system, the sound 4 x worse.
There are a couple of theries.
One being that HD wanted the bike to sound rich and full in the showroom.
Another one is so the sound can be louder at speed, it took some of the richness out. (One I believe)
Did you ever look at the stock speakers? The speaker cone is only 4 1/4" in diameter.
The movement of the cone I think set an all time low on ability of travel to reproduce sound, pathetic to say the least.
With the small travel the cone makes the "magnetic flux" is minimal so only a small magnetic field is needed, hence the small magnets, which are Neodymium I believe.
Speakers with ceramic magnets tend to weigh more, but generally handle more power and sound better at high volume.

My theory, speakers work off of vibrations. Harley's are known for engine vibration when running. When the bike is running you are inducing more vibrations into the speakers due to the motor running therefore throwing the sound off.
As for why it does it, I guess you'd have to ask Harley. My guess it it's to keep you from blowing the speakers turning the volume up going down the road. Others have suggested it's to get you to buy the Harley upgraded system
As for how it does it, the head unit automatically changes the EQ settings when you start the bike. Nothing you can do about it, it's in the software.

Not sure, but after hearing the older harleys vs the stereo on the limited, I'll take the new one no questions asked. Both me and my passenger can hear just fine at any speed, which is more then I can say about the stock older system. Could it be better? Yes. Is it horrible? No, not IMO...
Everyone i know noticed this, it's like power is taken away from the source, not as clean, anyone figures it out, please post. I added Hog tune speakers, and amp, can hear much better at speed, but it still is different at off, and started
I've noticed that every time I start my bike I have to go into the avc settings and change it up and down a few times and it's like it kicks the amp in. My dealer says they know about it but have no fix at this time. I have the boom 1 audio. Don't know if it makes a difference but it works every time I do it.
Don't get me wrong, I can live with it but I just wondered why it did this, heck, it sounds awesome when not running, like a good car stereo. I guess thats my next upgrade then.
