Default Traded the 15 CVO Road Glide- Back on a Road King !

I gave it a 9 months and 11400 miles but still couldn't get used to a fairing bike. I've been a Road King guy for many years and thought I could make the transition. It was a great ride but I'm happy to be back on a 2016 Road King ! Made a fair deal on the trade, I've bought 8 bikes from my local dealer so he did me right. Threw in a V-Rod Muscle too on an even out the door trade. Guess I need to change my sig pic !

I'll be adding a Harley Hammock heated seat and heat demons heated grips to the King. Two things I loved about the CVO. Won't miss the clunky infotainment system and its constant "updates" already have my trusty Garmin Zumo mounted on the King.

Congrats on your new bikes, they both are fun in their own ways.
You also made someone happy to get a broke in CVO RG.

I've had a 2005 & 2013 Road Kings and both were great bikes.

This is my third one. Had a 2003 and a 2007. I must say that so far this 2016 is the best one yet. I did a ton of upgrades to my previous ones with engine and suspension mods. This one will probably stay pretty close to stock as far as motor and suspension.

Congrats on the King. Love my '16 and agree they are great right off the floor. Interested the fairing didn't work for you. I'm not a fairing guy either, but I've been curious off and on. you actually took the plunge. Interested to hear what it was like for you and what pushed you back to the King? Enjoy the ride!!

Where's the pics? A CVO would be hard to give up, but looks like your much happier now.

I'll try to explain. First the positives. The CVO rode great.Like a Cadillac on the highway. All the bells and whistles, tunes, GPS all the infotainment stuff ect ect. I put in several 1000 mile days while I had this bike.Very comfortable suspension, brakes ect.

I never could get used to the "busyness" of the fairing. I missed the view over the Road King nacelle, the ability to strip it down and ride with no windshield. The CVO tour pack made me feel like I had a passenger or someone was following me ! The CVO was one heavy *** bike too. Nearly 1000 lbs when full of fuel and loaded for a trip. It was sluggish on curvy, challenging roads. Like trying to guide a bus. I missed the nimbleness of the stripped down Road King. I also actually missed the wind ! The CVO did such a great job blocking the breeze it was brutally hot in the dead of summer, very little wind to cool you down. In the winter it was great though. I rode in temps as low as 25 degrees and the heated seat and heated grips were awesome. I have ordered the same Harley Hammock heated seat for my new Road King and will use heat demon heated grips.

I learned how to use the infotainment pretty easily but still think it's garbage. The GPS interface is no where near as nice as a Garmin Zumo. I missed being able to change my route on the fly as I can do with my Zumo. The voice recognition on the infotainment to try to change your route while riding never worked. I can do it in seconds on the Zumo. I never once updated my infotainment because for the most part mine worked flawlessly and I didn't want to experience all the issues others have had when they updated the software.

The CVO was a great bike. Just not for me. I never had any issues with anything in the 9 months and 11400 miles I owned it. I did all my own services and it has never seen a dealer service bay, except for one front tire change when I picked up a screw. If your thinking of going to a fairing bike, do what I wished I would have done. Rent one for a week or so. If I would have done that it probably would have saved me a few bucks. I spent the last 9 months trying to convince myself the CVO was for me. I failed.

I think I know what you are trying to say, brother. I switched from a beautiful '08 Heritage Softail to a brand new '15 SGS and I still miss my Heritage. What a great bike she was. I should have never sold her. A man needs at least two bikes in his garage. Don't get me wrong, I do love my SGS, but there are days, where I'd rather ride my Heritage.
