Default Front Fork Oil Replacement?

Is there a way to replace the front fork oil on a rushmore without removing the forks? Looking to add heavier oil to the forks.

Thanks...

What about a vacuum pump, like Mity Vac?

Did they change that much that you can take the top caps off?

I just tore mine down and rebuilt them with progressive cartridges this past sunday. I don't think that it would be possible to do it without tearing them all the way down. there would be oil left at the bottom of the shock in the area where the top out spring is.

After doing it, I realized that the job is very easy so long as you have the proper tools and some time to do it.

What cartridges did you go with? I want to do this when I change out for chromed sliders.

Standard height progressive. Part number 31-4001.

The directions are a bit confusing at one part. they mention to use the stock bottoming springs, but they also come with new bottoming springs. Also, they don't mention anything about what to do with item numbers 1 and 8 in this link. they need to be reused as well.

Make sure you get the proper sealant/Loctite in the manual for the screw at the bottom. I used blue Loctite and it is holding up now, but I haven't ridden it yet. Also, find a container that has a pour spout that holds 300cc's of fluid. It will make it easier than using a 60cc syringe 5 times like I did... work with what ya got.

It is an easy swap. I put the black fork kit on. it came with two O-rings in the kit and I imagine the chrome fork kit will as well. refer to this post about that.

Have they done away with the drain screw at the bottom back of the lower part of the fork? If so it would be hard to drain all of the fluid yes. If you can drain them that way and replace the fluid with like a 10 wt belray or SE heavy it makes a huge difference, I replace mine every 20000 and it really improves the handling... When I can I will buy the cartridges though, they seem to work best...new oil is a cheap fix that works... I even replace the oil in my rear shocks...What a difference... night and day.

I don't know about the 13's and lower since I have never worked on them, but the 14+ don't have the screw on the bottom of the leg. I don't think that my 15 Wide Glide does either according to the parts break down. I will have to go look.

2014 and newer is when they took the drain screw out of the fors so they have to be vacuumed out or disassembled I guess...
