Tighten them up some maybe 2-3 clicks at a time. I think you will find a better ride. And shocks don't support the weight. You talk about 300 lbs. What about a bike with 2 200lb riders plus loaded bags?
Tightening them up = harsher/stiffer ride with quicker rebound.
I thought the adjustment **** changed the way the oil flows like clicker shocks on a snowmobile, wrong! It does nothing more than squeeze the spring down to a stiffer position, just a fancier way to do it with out tools.
I still like them, way better than air crap but I swear if you turned them up all the way you could haul a bus!
Hi
I've been following this post from the start and just wanted to say that at first I was disgusted with these shocks and wanted to replace them but after my meltdown ended I started making slow adjustments and keeping notes on the # of turns I was at and so on.....on one 2 up ride I stopped and made adjustments 5 times. Still not crazy about them but feel I am getting the most I can out of them now. I know I'm going to get some flak on this next comment but another thing I did was reduce the tire air pressure about 5lbs in each and that felt a lot better.
Premium 12" will improve ride over the 12" air shocks but 13" air or premium will definitely be way better then either 12" shocks but then cool factor suffer on the SG or RG look. Progressive 944 reg height won't change the appearance of the bike but will give you the ride comfort of 13" shocks.
I respectfully disagree.
I would take the 12" premium ride over ANY of the air shocks. Anytime.
I also do not see that much diff in the ride between the 12" and 13" premium in ride quality, other than of course the 12" will bottom out faster on a hard bump. Which I realize is part of the ride quality equation, but as long as its not hitting bottom, the 12" rides the same as the 13"
I upgraded to the Harley Premium ride Adj shock before I picked up my 15 RGS. So it's difficult to compare to stock. But I was concerned about only 3 inches of travel on the stock. All I can say is these shocks are excellent. They never bottom out and handle most bumps comfortably. I had an 07 RK before with stock shocks and that was always a problem with bottoming out, especially with a passenger. I'm very pleased with these upgraded HD shocks.
So much better than Air Ride. Worth the money? I think they were very $$$ but then again I'm astounded at the prices on quality aftermarket shocks as well. Certainly cheaper than some of those options. Would I do it again? Probably. They are pretty much set and forget (just crank it 1 or 2 clicks for luggage) and give a much more comfortable, stable, and predictable ride in corners and over rough pavement than air suspension.
I still say crank em a couple clicks and try it before you complain about something you haven't tryed. I had the same thoughts as most of you till I tried it. I was riding down 75 experiencing the seems so I just stopped by a dealer and they came out, saw where my settings was and cranked er probably 10 clicks, helped tremendously and I've clicked 2 more sense. Wife has degeneration disease in neck vertebrae couldn't handle bumps and now she's a lot happier.
What more can I say??
