Changing songs on Iphone/6.5 Boombox

Changing songs on Iphone/6.5 Boombox
Up until recently when I am listening to my Itunes through the Boombox hooked up to my Iphone I could advance or go back to the next song by moving the left control joystick sideways (same joystick that adjusts the volume by moving it up and down.
Now when I try it it will not go to the next song. The only way I can do that is to go through the menu and scroll through the songs on the screen.
Any reason it has changed?
