Default Gas Cap Problem... The Plastic Threads inside the tank.

I noticed it the first time I filled up my 14 Ultra Limited CVO. When I put the Metal Gas Nozzle in the tank, the plastic threads inside the tank were so soft that just a little bit of pressure from your hand mashed them. So I have been real careful after that as to not even lay the nozzle in the tank. I hold it so it does not touch the sides. If you stick the nozzle in hanging sideways and squeeze the handle, your hand puts a little pressure on the top of the handle... If you push too you will damage the threads and start the process... The cheapness of the plastic is flabbergasting... Anyhow... It is what it is... It's not that the gas cap is being cross threaded... It's that the threads in the tank are being mashed. So it's an expensive fix for a recall...

I always hold the gas nozzle upright so it doesn't touch the treads....just a habit I've always done.

Shove mine in all the way and pull out as it fills up. No problems with the threads.

Added..... if it were indeed the threads inside the tank that were the real problem, then replacing all the gas caps and/or filing down the section below the threads on the cap wouldn't do any good.

I wedge mine in to avoid spills. Is this thread a joke?

I hammer mine into the tank. Never notice the threads distorting.

Jebus, how many gas tank thread threads do we need? How is it freaking possible that adults can have this much difficulty putting gas in their tanks?
