Have the quick detach on my Road Glide Special. Absolutely love it. The only drawback for me versus the quick detach set-up on my '08 Road Glide is that, since my '16 tourpack has lights and the rear seat has speakers, I do have to take the seat off to unplug everything. IMO the HD kit should come with the hardware to quickly unplug everything without removing the seat. That would obviously make too much sense for them to do it.
Lift the lid on the tourpak. It will move the backrest out of the way and make it easier to unclip you wires. Easier than removing the seat.
love the QD kit on my '02 ultra. the only time the tourpak on the bike is when touring or two up, most of my riding is solo and local on either day rides or back and forth to work. put a hidden antenna in the batwing for the radio and did the CB delete, speaker and light quick connectors installed behind the seat inside the chrome struts. can remove the tourpak and change the seat in less than 5 mins. the bike feels totally different with it off, street glide seat is nowhere near as comfy but looks way better.
I put the kit on myself when I got my '16 Ultra. Love it for around town and day runs. Put a SG seat on it and rigged up the audio controls for the passenger (that was not easy). I think there is a pic in my sig of a view of it.
