Sounds reasonable but, where did you locate your license plate?

There are lots of options for that. Mine was to buy a roadglide fender off eBay in vivid black and sell my stock one. My buddy drilled his stock fender and put a license plate holder on it below the taillight. The HD above the taillight is also an option.

Here are my thoughts, some of which have already been mentioned.

1. Do NOT attempt to reinstall the tour pack by yourself. Your fender will thank you. Seriously. You might think you can do it by yourself, feeling all manly and stuff. 10 minutes later you'll be crying in your beer over the new "accents" to the fender.
2. The black clamps on the side of the quick disconnect bracket can be replaced with chrome ones, or even chrome locking ones with keys. Think about that before doing the installation.
3. HD has a nice cover kit for when the tour pack is off: http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...ware-cover-kit
4. If you're thinking about adding any more lights to the tour pack, or anything requiring wires to the bike, make sure you take into consideration that the wires will need to be disconnectable (I'm making up words as I go).

I agree the bike feels much more responsive and nimble when the tour pack is off. I couldn't believe it. But my 6 year old grandson likes to ride with me, and the I felt better with the tour pack on than just using a back rest for him.

SG seat w/windshield used $100, saddlebag lights $210 with discount, license plate frame $85 and some time. I unbolt my trunk (2 bolts each side) and use BT on my phone for music. I'm cheap

Great setup ,how did you mount your license plate ? I went qd and sg fender.
If I would have seen your set up I may went that route.

Only problem with this is you lose your turn signals. You will only have a brake lamp. Unless you add signals. But your right 4 bolts is easy enough.

I bought and installed a Kuryakyn plate mount Has an LED light that wires to you taillight. Had to drill the fender to mount but no big deal to me since its permanent.

Plus it's cleaner looking than the shitty one the QD kit comes with. Added the LED brake light for a Road King so there is no window for the plate light on the top of the light.

Mine is off the bike more than it's on. I like the looks and handling of the bike w/o the tp. We pretty much just use it for touring.

That's why I went with the road glide fender, it has the same license plate holder and tail/turn lamps as a street glide. Solved both problems at the same time.
