Default Ohlin Shocks, are the worth the $$$ I will let you know

Just Ordered a set of #6 Shocks from Howard at Motorcycle . I read a lot about folks having conversations with him on the phone. They misunderstand. I have a few engineer friends and they process words like they process the things they engineer. So bear with him... It comes across a little odd and it seems like he is impatient with you... But it's just the way he processes words... He was real helpful and I ordered a set of shocks... I will let you know how it turns out after I install them. Have your Ducks in a row with the worksheet before you talk to him and read thru the description of the shocks on the Motorcyclemetal website before you talk to him so you can connect the dots on what he is telling you...

Update Edit 8-22-16... Howard instructed me to understand what I was getting myself into before ordering the shocks... But I'm a dumbass and jumped in head first... The Number 6's have an external "Ressy" or Oil Reservoir. The purpose of the external reservoir is for cooling... On Race Bikes the constant pounding heats up the oil in the shocks changing the viscosity of the oil and thus the damping ability of the shock... If you are running on smooth roads chances are you are not gonna get your shocks that hot so you probably don't need the external ressys... But I'm all in. I ride hard 2-UP with my wife and a lot of luggage on our long trips. I found myself one day on the Dragon with a full load headed to our hotel... I dove in and made the best of it... I did nottice a weakening of the suspension system as I traversed towards the end of the Dragon to Deals Gap... Now I know why. It's not only the up and down but also torque that contributes to heat stress of the oil... The Dragon provided lots or Torque as I powered thru the turns with a heavy load...

He needs somebody to re-write his website and instructions he sends with the shocks.
ALL the info you need is there but is poorly written and fragmented.
If the website and instruction could be simplified he would get a lot less calls from confused people and you'd see a lot less posts from those people.

Mine is a general comment, not directed to Ohlins, but most instructions I read are TERRIBLY written. Some include photos and they are still impossible to follow. Why they have third grade English students write instructions is beyond me.

Rare are the clear ones.

OK. You may return to your regular programming.

Default hear a lot of good things

I've read a lot of threads about these great shocks. But my question is this what happens if you and or your passenger gain or lose weight? Go from lite packing trips to heavy packing trips? What if your wife rides once or twice a season like mine does? I'll stick with my progressive shocks. Spend a lot of time talking to my dealer about this issue. He didn't recommend these.

Had Ohlins on the back for a year and a half now...

I've lost 50 pounds since January.

I ride both solo, and two up.

We take extended trips, loaded for 2-3 weeks, including camping gear.

All it takes to switch from solo to full weight is about two turns on the preload ring with the provided tool, and 1-2 clicks each on the compression and damping adjusters. Takes all of 3 minutes.

But lately, I just leave it at full weight versions--it's that good.

All the best,

Shane
